Hi I have had my 2nd hand *ist D for around a month now and have some questions
1. why won't any of camera flashes work - hot shoe & sync lead 1980's dedi and 'standard'?
2. Why wont it work with non ka/kaf lenses?
3. Can I use a CF to SD adaptor in it?

Note i have just upgraded to the latest firm ware- this should have solved these shouldn't it?

Thanks David

The flash stopped working on my istD earlier this year.
Although non-PTTL flashes and pc-sync'd flash did work, the PTTL AF360FGZ and AF540FGZ would not fire at all.

I guess firstly, make sure some internal memory isn't causing problems... Remove the battery, wait a few minutes and replace. Then find the reset to factory defaults within the menus and do that.

Dunno about the other issues, but off hand, it sounds like it needs repair.

No 1. Sounds like a problem.

No 2. You have to set it to allow the use of the aperture ring. Scroll through the menus to find the setting.

No 3 If you can find one to fit, of course.

Try the instructions here - https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7719 - except subsitute "AE-L button" for "Green button".

Yes. I have one
There are two types of SD-to-CF adapter. One will make the SD card stick out - that won't work. The other, the SD card sits inside and works a treat in my *ist-D
Might be able to dig out a link later...

Cheers for the replys also i took apart some old CRV3 baterrys and found they are literaly 2 AA's taped together! is there any advantage using these over AA photo lithiums and can you still get the battery grip BG-1 at a resonable price in the UK?

Do you mean the CRV3's or the button cell?

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. Not sure if the button cell helps anything more than the internal clock. I am not certain, but I believe that I remember when I first got the istD the settings would remain, but the clock would need to be reset every time I replaced the CRVs. (I got it with a dead backup battery).

Anyway, it certainly couldn't hurt to do both. Its a long shot to begin with, but I have read of more than a few cases where odd behavior was resolved by removing batteries and resetting defaults or both. (had a few personal experiences myself such as when the Av/Tv dials stop working for no reason)

Good luck, hopefully it is a simple user-solvable problem.
