*ist D - Sensitivity Correction in Green Mode

On my camera Sensitivity Correction (the automatic setting of ISO rating) only works in the Green mode if no Exposure Compensation is set in the P (Hyper Program) mode.

It took a long time for me to realise this! With one particular lens, I always like to underexpose by one stop. This was easy to leave as a permanent setting in the P mode for use with this particular lens.

But, as all my other lenses are happy to be used in the Green mode, I cannot have the advantage of Sensitivity Correction with them AND Exposure Compensation permanently set in the P mode. Surely the Green mode should override any specific settings made just for use in the P mode?

Or am I missing something?

Malcolm,

I did some tests on my *istD... and found out some interesting things:

If you apply exposure correction, it turns off the Auto Sensitivity in P mode

Consequently, I guess the Green mode issue is a bug in the firmware - presumably the firmware checks the exposure compensation before deciding whether to implement Auto Sensitivity.

It's a shame the *istD doesn't allow exposure adjustment with Auto Sensitivity. Now, I wonder whether it will do the same when doing an auto-bracket-exposure.... (I'll let you know)

(Here's waiting for the next firmware )

Thanks for replying, and I'm glad to hear that both our cameras have the same hardware glitch.

You talk about firmware upgrades. Have there been any to date? How will the public know about them? How does Pentax learn about any bugs in the firmware? Do they monitor this Forum?

Malcolm,

AFAIK, Pentax.co.jp has firmware updates when ready. There's nothing for the *istD (I keep checking )

I'm not sure whether Pentax view this forum - one can only hope so. However, I've done what I can to make this bug (and others) known by the Pentax firmware team Let's wait and see what happens...
