Bloodhound is what I call a boat. Oh for a spare million (and another three or four to run it.)

Just under a million is her current price (pounds sterling), quite a bargain as she has had a million spent on her restoration.Bloodhound is what I call a boat. Oh for a spare million (and another three or four to run it.)

She is tiller steered, which must be quite interesting on a 63ft racing yacht

I wouldn't like the upkeep of her, but she is beautiful.George Lazarette wrote:

My son's Hasselteraak is also tiller steered and about the same length, but no racing yacht.

It all depends how well balanced the boat is. In those days, designers were less concerned with designing to rule than they are now, and built boats to sail. I would imagine her keel is relatively short and deep, and that she can turn on a sixpence.George Lazarette wrote:

Personally, I always prefer a tiller over a wheel, but in heavy weather you need to take more care over sail trim. Bloodhound probably had a pretty large crew in her heyday, so that wouldn't have been a problem.
The mate on the square rigger I sailed on didn't believe in rudders. He had a clinker dinghy, and steered it by sails alone.
Bit pretentious, I thought, but it worked.

"Bloodhound" is a very famous yacht, having been built by Camper & Nicholson in 1936.
She was owned by the Royal Family for quite a few years.

She is for sale for anyone with quite a few spare pennies
