?? insurance ??

Brain picking time: Do you insure your photo equipment and, if so, how?
Do you cover it with your household contents insurance or buy separate cover elsewhere?
I am mindful that as I get back into photography, I am spending more on kit and (always) tempted to spend even more on new fancy kit!
A few websites/firms will not cover items on their policy purchased privately - only items from a shop/manufacturer/website etc!
Another site lists camera makes BUT does not list PENTAX!!!!!

Thoughts, recomendations, experiences welcomed.

My photo stuff (see below) used to be separately insured under a specific photo policy and cost well over a 100 quid a year then - but not for the last 4-5 years when it's been covered first by my SAGA, and now Nationwide, home contents policy for effectively less than 50 quid a year. So, now, this is a lot cheaper and there's no need to declare the major items separately (but a max of, IIRC, about £5K including any other miscellaneous losses)

In addition, because I have a Nationwide "packaged" current a/c for around £13/month, I've got a big discount on the main house policy, and also mobile phone/tablet insurance and LV Britannia Rescue breakdown and recovery cover! MUCH cheaper overall - definitely the "way to go"!!!
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

Yes, contents insurance should be OK. But as Spad says, it's worth checking.

Check that the amount of cover is sufficient. Since insurance is usually based on the price of a new replacement, it's quite possible to find yourself carrying over £3K replacement price when you're out and about. And check that it's covered for the sort of harm that you're concerned about. For example, your photographic equipment might be covered for accidental damage at home but not if you're using it away from home.

Something to bear in mind is that some insurance companies consider digital photographic equipment to be on a par with electronic equipment and the like. They consider electronics to be a greater risk and hike their prices accordingly.

So I can cancel my £13/month BBC TV licence and use that tax/robbery for insurance. Been wanting to stop paying BBC for ages.

I don't see any "connection" between the two paras above - totally different issues!

PS: FWIW, I think the BBC licence fee is actually quite good value in terms of the quality of the programming they (mostly!) produce - certainly as afar as the "loadsof tripe" and adverts on many of the commercial channels.

We use Glover & Howe as we tend to take out quite some valuable stuff, comprehensive policy but we haven't had to claim for several years.... Piece of mind. Stuff worth under £500 can go in household as our policy has an inventory with serial numbers etc.

Worth calling a few companies - Aaduki tend to be very competitive - for the best price.

Actually you can't, as your using a monitor and computer equipment. Which needs to be covered by a TV licence.

Haven't had a TV or watched TV for several years and still get regularly hounded by the BBC. A once great British institution degenerated into a vile Marxist organisation.

Yes I can, have a google and check out;

TV Licence - GOV.UK
You do not need a TV Licence to watch: streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus on-demand TV through services like All 4 and Amazon Prime Video videos on websites like YouTube videos...
"
As long as you don't watch any Live or bbc catchup , and probably >90% of tv is not live' anyway. e.g. All4, My5, Nowtv, youtube with no live streaming of say Sky. etc....

Nonsense! You don't even need a licence to own a TV. It's only some aspects of how it is used that require a licence.

And apologies to you GrumpyGrandPA for hijacking your thread.
