Weekly Competition #837 Bridges
A bit of older Britain by Davidwozhere
What a lovely peaceful scene. Colours are subdued adding to the restful atmoshpere. I love the way the towpath curves through the bridge narrowing the water way but adding to the visual enjoymment'
Bridge over the canal by Sue Riley
What is it about canals that people enjoy so much and have their their spirits uplifted as well as providing a repository for old prams? I get the impression this was very cold day, the bird life appears to be walking on the surface rather than swimming in it. The bridge forms an attractive arch linking two halves of the image and the three silhouetted figures are a bonus.
Bridge in the mist by drofmit
Another delightful scene with the little bridge subdued in a shady corner. The mist adds intrigue to an image which delights the exploring eye.
Viaduc by francisbd
Now for a bridge on a massive scale compared to the first three. Is it a viaduct carrying a road or railway or an aqueduct? Regardless - its a fascinating structure set in an attractive scene.
Inverary Bridge by MHOL190246
A well photographed part of Scottish West Highland history this elegant bridge is just one of the attractions in the tourist trap village of Inverary. Its been well captured here and reminds me its been far too long since I last visited the area.
Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge by Hazyl
A well crafted and carefully chosen viewpoint of this famous Teesside bridge. Exposure looks good with sufficient detail to be apppreciated without losing quality by over -exposing. Love the star burst points of light..
Stackpole Eight Arches Bridge by MikeinDevon
That must have been a very attractive walk Mike and you made good use of it in taking this picture. What a fascinating bridge. I like the way your picture picture divides the scene into section: top layer the sky, then the band of trees and finally the bridge itself separating the water in thje lake or river.
Two bridges by John Riley
John's having a laugh here. Well its different and I failed to specify what sort of bridges I had in mind. Nice try.
Matthew Bridge by Flan
An attractive bridge over a small river in or near a town centre. Its compentently photographed but I find the scene a little too busy and that rather attractive church tower is dominating the scene at the expense of the bridge.
Under bridge on railway by Tyronet2000
Home territory for me, I've spent many happy hours photographing the bridges which span the River Tyne which seperate Newcastle and Gateshead. Stan has chosen a graphic angle in using the supporting ribs of the King Edward Bridge to great effect.
Royal Border Bridge by PRYorkshire
Another railway bridge on the East Coast Mainline but a very different style of photography to Stan's example. Here we see a big landscape with glimpses of the River Tweed through the arches of the bridge and the hills of the Scottish Borders in the distance. The red panels on the Virgin train add a nice splash of bright colour.
Bridging autumn by Stephen-s
Newcastle again, this time we are taken to the city's Ouseburn district for a lovely autumn scene. The bridge on the left is the Tyne and Wear Metro Bridge while on the right there's a main road bridge. I love the muted autumn colours of this scene avoiding over saturation.
Bridge and reflections by Retsoor
Lovely colours and reflections in this intriguing scene at Warwick Castle with the bridge in question being breached with a lovely centuries old Gothic arch. The reflections are gorgeous.
Pedestrian bridge on a misty morning by Noelcmn
Super lighting aided and abetted by the mist in this appealing image. The footbridge is a little indistinct amid other structures and cables which give an impression of overcrowding but its still a picture with much appeal.
Results:
1 Stephen-s 'Bridging Autumn'
2 'Middlesborough Transpoter Bridge' by Hazyl
=3 'A Bit of Older England by Davidwozhere and 'Under Bridge on railway' by Tyronet2000

Thanks to all for your reactions. It was a quality entry and if the photos were to have been given marks they would have been very closely matched.
