Title Weekly Competition #328 - Sun

Closing Date 27/10/2013
Opting Out If you'd like to enter but not keen on creating and judging the following competition you have the option to opt out. If you're selected as the winning photo simply create a report saying that you'd like Admin to take over and we'll do the rest.
Description
As we jet off this weekend for some October Spanish sun this weeks theme is "Sun".

I will be looking for shots where the sun makes an appearance, not simply it's lights, rays or shadows cast, but the actual orb itself.

Even though I will be away I will be able to pick a winner and hopefully get some feedabck written up too.

Usual weekly competition rules apply concerning Pentax cameras or their cloned siblings.

Good luck!

Some great entries and I was really attracted to the sunset shots.
Due to the cost and quality of the WiFi here it will be 1,2,3 until I get home.

Well done to everyone, and the winners are:
1st. Kruger Park Sunset by Noelcmn
2nd. The Sun goes down on Cardigan Bay by Perpicador
3rd. Sunset over Coronation Street by Johnha

Full critique to follow asap.

Belated C&C and apologies for the delay, I am now back from my winter sun and ready to go...

There were some superb entries and I really liked them all, some interesting a different takes on the theme and some good old fashioned sunsets in there too.

Thank you and well done to everyone that entered.

The Sun goes down on Cardigan Bay by Perspicador
I really liked this shot, nice sunset, foreground interest and Cardigan Bay is a place I know well and I have seen plenty of sunsets there. A very well deserved 2nd place.

Red Orb by paulb531
Nice shot, with some foreground interest too, I like the red in the pools. Nice all round shot.

Spanish Sun by GaryJohn
Unusual but effective shot, really like the way the sun has been captured. Very nice indeed and makes me want to go back.

SKY AT NIGHT by mowser
Lovely colours in the sky, for me however the foreground needs something a bit extra to be a podium placer.

Canadian sunrise by bigsturgeon
This is one of those shots that is really effective, was pushing for a podium, well done.

Through a glass lightly by CMW
I really like this shot, however the lack of the actual orb left me wanting I am afraid. It is an excellent shot otherwise though.

Dawn Over Loch Awe by johnriley
Another excellent shot, the foreground is stunning, I like everything about it and it was a forerunner and almost made the podium.

Sunset over Coronation Street by johnha
As soon as this was posted I knew it would take something special to beat it, I juggled this for 1st and 2nd until the winner was posted. A really excellent shot, well done.

Snowscape by davidstorm
Another excellent shot, again of a place I know very well. A bit more of an orb itself and it would have been up there.

Ready To Depart by JAK
I was torn over this shot, did I like it, did I not...I went round and round a bit. In the end I definitely did and it almost got on the podium.

Sun rise, Firth of Forth by davidtrout
Another excellent capture, love the scale the houses in the foreground bring and the colours. Other than a lack of an orb in the sky I can’t fault this shot.

The Sun by tyronet2000
Another shot I wasn’t sure about to begin with, but I do like it. It is unusual but quite effective!

The orb by ken2390
“just went out and took the photo”, you did, and again I wasn’t sure to begin with but it is simple and effective.

A thousand little Suns by drofmit
A very clever, well executed and processed shot; other than a lack the actual sun I really, really love this shot.

Sun set over Lundy Island by co049
Lovely fire colours in the sky, the sky looks huge. I like the shot, just would have liked a bit of the sun in there for it to be pushing for a place.

Kruger Park Sunset by NoelCmn
What a last minute entry – what is not to love about this shot? I love everything about it, it is a stunner.

Please remember I am not a pro, and these are my thoughts!

Thanks Andrew for the kind comments. I was in two minds to submit it due to the flare but decided it added more than it subtracted.

John.
