| Description | |
Inspired by the current late summer sunsets this weeks competition theme is In Silhouette. I will be looking for something really strong in its form in the foreground or silhouette; however the background can be anything from wintery grey to vivid evening sun orange or gold. No restriction on what is in silhouette, or when it is shot, it could be yourself, a building, or an animal, there just has to be a silhouette. Usual rules apply regarding the use of Pentax cameras and their stable mates only please. Good luck! |

This week’s competition In Silhouette was as ever a tough one to decide, some very good entries.
Thank you to everyone for entering and I will admit picking a winner was very difficult, as two of the shots were in with a shout all the way to midnight, however there has to be only the one.
1st. At the fish market by michaelblue
2nd. Early Morning Near Gibraltar by davidstorm
3rd. Lieutenant pigeon by simonarron
I am off away on my holiday this morning so I am afraid the summaries will have to be very brief as I have a car to pack and I can hear the words "What are you doing on the computer"!
Breakwater by Perspicador
Cardigan Bay holds some wonderful childhood memories for me and this captured them perfectly. I like this capture a lot as it has wonderful colours and the all important silhouette.
Early Morning Near Gibraltar by davidstorm
This is a wonderful capture, the colours are sublime and I can’t say anything about it to fault it.
Eilean Donan Castle and Loch Duich by JAK
Plenty of silhouettes here and beautiful blues and shimmering light on the loch. Love this shot John.
Sunset Surfer by Bagworth
This is beautiful, I really love it. There is a real sense of isolation with the surfer and a stunning backdrop. Top, top shot.
The connoisseur by davidtrout
David always manages superb entries into the competitions and this is no exception. Unique take on the theme and a front runner for sure.
Two Young Silhouettes by Darlene
Brother and Sister, young lovers? I would like to know what they are, however another super entry!
St Batholomews Church and Graveyard by tyronet2000
Very strong silhouette and beautiful sky and the light looks as though it is coming out of the church.
The incomplete angler by geordie01
Why incomplete, what did he forget? Another good entry with a nice sense of movement in the back ground combined with calm to the fore.
Sunset on forth road bridge by kemopop1
Lovely sunset captured here, and is “The” Forth Bridge in the distance? That sky is to die for.
Pursuit by velimir
Dark, scary superbly framed and captured, I really love this shot.
Power lines in silhouette by Noelcmn
Love the foreground ripples and hint of the shadow of the pylons. Nice capture.
Cracked by bforbes
Ok Barry what is the foreground? I sense quite a bit of PP here, but hey it is still great!
Sunset by gabby
Lovely sunset, well framed with beautiful colours. Nice.
View Accross Lake to Highroyds by Karl
Very Tim Burton, I love it, it is dark, full of mystery and a top shot.
At the fish market by michaelblue
As soon as I saw this I thought it is going to take something special to beat this!
Lieutenant pigeon by simonarron
I don’t care what anyone else said about this, it is great!
Daddy’s Boy by JudithAnn
This has something special about it, there is something unusual about the picture quality, but it adds to it.
River Song by jamesiewaimesie
Lovely mono silhouette in which you can feel that morning chill, very good.
Sailing into the sunset by savcom
Beautiful, I cannot fault it and your photo information sums it up perfectly.
The Firmament by mandarama
Very nice capture, like the little human aspect and the 'mackerel sky'.
Orange Sunrise by paulb531
Lovely colours, super sunset, great silhouette too. Nice shot.
Two for the price of one! By dromfit
Ha haa love it very clever spot, however it reminds me too much of my pending holiday to win!
Well done everyone!

Thanks for the competition Andrew. I can see your problem with the judging, some very strong entries. So the congratulations for the top spots are well deserved.
My foreground is an artwork on the roof of The National Glass Center - Sunderland. I don't think I did a lot of PP but I'll check with the original and post it

Some really lovely shots - funny how all photographers do like a good silhouette and there were some very good ones here. Congrats to the winners.
