In this world full of labour saving devices it is easy to forget that we can manage without them. In this weeks competition I'm looking for people who are managing - or even just the objects they use. Pedal cyclists is an obvious example but perhaps you can be a bit more creative. Best of luck Usual rules apply |

Many thanks for the podium placing. Clearly you must have good taste IMHO!
As always there are many excellent entries so it's great to have one's own effort noticed and rewarded. Thanks.
Also well done to the other placings and everyone else for entering.

Hi Paul - thanks selecting this picture - especially when pictures show a great memory it is nice, when others like it too. Thanks for the great and quick judging as well.
The range of entries was very variable so it was also a big joy to see the different interpretations of the topic.
Congratulations to the podium and the HRs

Axel's was a great winner, congratulations. Paul, it was a very good subject for a competition and you did a fine job judging the entries. Once again, it was a pity there weren't more entries.

Winner - The power of a child – Axel Luther
Second – Canoes - jak
Third - I believe I can fly – ArsenAL
High Commended
Front wheel drive tricycle – Jim-W
One man one pole – andrewA
A good excuse – Garyjohn
This is my critique of your photos – please appreciate this is a very a subjective topic and I don’t expect to please everybody.
I believe I can fly – ArsenAL
Of all the entries this is probably the most technical. The level of detail captured in the subjects calls for a great amount of skill. The shutter closed at the exact moment in time to give a superb image - well done.
Car Hire – timcx500e
A very good play on words. A nice photo for the family album.
Boats at Zoo Lake - noelcmn.
The boats fit the criteria and technically it is a good photo. It doesn’t make a big impact for me – cropping the boats would help to make use of the many colours there are in the picture.
Surfing – kosh
This is a very difficult subject to get right. I like the surf and the action you have captured. If only the subject was a bit sharper this would have been a serious contender.
Cutting Chamfers – frogherder
This is another very good photo technically and fits the criteria. Unfortunately, it doesn’t excite me.
Trolley power – nicesparky
Nice candid shot. This guy is certainly worth the money they are paying him. I don’t think you could grumble with his productivity.
Only from outside – hiddendragon28
Yes it is an old sewing machine viewed through a shop window - well done but not my cup of tea I’m afraid
A good excuse – Garyjohn
This is a really nice photo both technically and aesthetically pleasing. Very simple and well presented – excellent.
Getting stuck in – john Riley
Very natural shot – nothing posed. Sometimes there is only one way to get the job done – I’ve been there. Is the Pentax still in one piece John? Not everybody appreciates their photo taken down a hole.
Move over and let me pass – drofmit
Ha ha love it. I bet there is more horse power in the pedal car. Top marks for originality.
One man one pole – andrewA
A very interesting photo Andrew there is a hell of a lot going off – a bit bizarre in some ways. My eyes are all over the place following the stream and then the gold mask. Wow it’s a bit like a Saladore Dali painting. Having said all that I like it - a very good photo
Early word processor – tyronnet2000
This is probably excellent Stan but unfortunately it’s wasted on me. I am a very simple type when it comes to photos. It’s good - but it’s not floating my boat.
Old in the new – Darlene
Police on horseback are becoming more of a rarity in our country as the cuts in money bite into budgets. It looks like the poor horse has got his work cut out. I would have liked to have seen the one guy on his horse and the background faded – but that’s just a personal choice.
Paddle your own – Perspicador
Nice capture – certainly fits the theme. My criticism is that the dark clump of tree takes my focus away from the main subject but otherwise a good photo.
Front wheel drive tricycle – Jim-W
Even with its obvious fault this is still a great capture. What a character – it looks like he has odd trouser legs. The rest of the photo has plenty of interest. If only you had zoomed out a bit and straightened up the image it would have been a winner – but still very good.
Girlpower – davidtrout
A great example of human power. I like the feeling of movement you have created with the panning. It is spoilt by the slight blurring of the main image. I thought last weeks effort of the three rowers ‘Pulling together’ was excellent and sharper than this image.
Old school Juicer - Smudge
This photo made me smile - my mother used to make elderberry wine using an old stocking. She had an excuse though juicers weren’t invented then!
Canoes – Jak
This is in my opinion John is excellent. I like simplistic photos that make an impact. It really does float my boat if you excuse the pun. The composition, the colours, the reflection on the water, the pure simplicity makes this photo very good.
The power of a child – Axel Luther
This photo wouldn’t look out of place on a magazine cover. It is a very professional looking piece of work. The subject is pin sharp and so is the background. The composition is excellent with vivid colours throughout. Well done Axel you’ve just shaded from John and his canoes. Nice story to go with it by the way.
