Weekly #876 - Wind Competition

Title Weekly #876 - Wind
Judge stevistds
Closing Date 14/07/2024
Description
The weather, particularly in the UK of late has not been very summery, I'm looking for images that show the power of the wind or the effect and movement it causes.
Images must be taken with Pentax equipment or clones and can be either archive material or taken this week.
I look forward to seeing some great interpretations of the subject, good luck.

Congratulations lubbyman you are this week’s winner.
Now down to you to set a task for this week whilst I start to critique last week’s entries.
It all started with a ME now look at me!

I was expecting a variety of interpretations on the subject and that definitely happened.

Wind in the reeds by Flan: as a birdwatcher I really like this shot, the movement of the seed heads and the colours particularly the sky evoke being out on the brooks, I can almost hear the sedge warblers churring.

Ooops by Noelcmn: A good tribute to Monroe and the Seven year itch. A perfectly timed photo capturing the skirt lifting to waist level as per the film. I like the framing against the shop door and window.

The Solar Wind by Stephen-s: A beautiful purple aurora with green highlights (I'm really jealous as I missed out on this as I was out of the UK at the time). An alternative interpretation on the subject, with perfect lighting capturing the church and memorials in the foreground.

Wind in the Willow by Nigel: I like the monochromatic abstract approach taken with this photo. The highlighted willow branches provide movement in what appears to be a light wind, the colours provide a calming effect.

A windy day in Scalloway by MHOL 190246: No doubting the strength of the wind with this photo. The ragged flag is perfectly framed against the hillside and focus on the flag provides a 3D effect against the background. Somehow the colours of the flag and the background give away the location.

Hold on to the Sails by sueriley: A perfectly composition with great subject matter. The movement of the vegetation in the foreground shows that the wind is blowing and the colour of the sails stand out against the background.

See? I told you it wasn't wind! by davidwozhere: Ah! some humour with this one. I thought it was going to be more "wind in the willows" on my first glance! A nicely captured spring nature shot, demonstrating the quantity of new life at that period of the year.

And finally the winner!
Wind vs Wave by Lubbyman: For me this captured the power of the wind in the generation of the waves and the wind blowing the spray. The timing of the photo and its composition makes you feel as if you can hear the waves crashing down around you - Well done!

Thanks for setting and judging the competition. Also for the win. I must confess that my first thought on seeing the title of the competition was to interpret 'wind' as davidwozhere did, but I couldn't think of a suitable photo . As for the wave shot, it was one of those times during a holday when you've just got to make the best of what the weather (and the Atlantic) throws at you.

Super shot Steve - you caught it perfectly. My own contribution was simply because there were NO entries at that point. I'm glad others stepped into the breach.
