| Description | |
Morning All, My daughter has returned to the UK after five years in Australia and commented what wonderful skies we have. That is what inspired this weeks competition "Clouds". I'm happy to see your sky-scapes and of course landscapes where the clouds are an important part of the composition, funny clouds, awesome clouds, rain clouds you name it I'd like to see it! As usual with the weekly competition, your images can have been taken at anytime past or present as long as they have been captured with a Pentax or clone camera. The winner will be expected to set and judge next weeks competition. Good luck Nigel |

Thanks for the coveted second place , Nigel - it would have taken some shot to beat the winner though - great image. Some great images this week - glad you liked my feeble attempt at humour (to hide the fact I didn't have any suitable cloud images)

Wonderful winning shot.... a moon goddess... and also the other podia places... congratulations to all three!!
"Firstly, sorry for the delay in judging".... looking at the entries, that does not surprise me one jot!
Both quality and quantity!! Thirteen pix is more than we've had for a long time....
And thanx for the competition.... fun, but I knew which to enter.
Not so much a right time - right place shot.... more of a fortuitous glance out of the window and another element arriving as I was fetching t'camera....
A few moments earlier and the dragon wouldn't have been there.... a few moments later, such is the nature of cloud shape photography, the dragon would have flown!

Never be afraid to talk about your techniques...
"Give a thousand photographers...
the same camera, lens and scene...
and you'll always get a thousand different takes!!"

Congrats BraydenBise, join with others sentiment about that fantastic shot-minimalist with lots of drama. Worthy winner indeed! Congrats extended to Garethjmorgan and davidwozhere for their respective podia places. Excellent challenge, I am sure that would have been pleasing to your daughter Nigel. Thanks for the Challenge, the judging and C&C exercise. Much appreciated as always!

No sign of any response from our winner, so I'm going to start a competition to run for a week and a bit. Should another one be started as well we'll remove it when we can to avoid confusion.
Best regards, John

Secondly, thank you for your lovely entries! Spoilt for choice but, choices I have to make.
Clouds by dewsburya
Shingle Street, Suffolk I'd say. Lovely open Suffolk scene the cloud across the horizon then up into the deep blue sky, beautiful.
cumulo-cirrus clouds over the golf course by davidwozhere
Stunning cloud and sky really transform this image, the land providing a pleasant grounding the sky is the star of the show.
Sunset Clouds by sueriley
I'm always a sucker for a sunset or sunrise, this image showing how important cloud formation is in this type of image
Suilven from the East by davidtrout
How lucky having the cloud hovering over Suilven, creating visual interest and balances so well with the foreground loch
Head and Neck above the Clouds bygarethjmorgan
This creation really made me laugh. I'm going to have to give it a podium spot but, which one?
Storm Brewing by pipinmels
Dark and brooding, really captures how weather can change so fast in the mountains. I really like the space and shapes described between the cloud and mountain.
Espoir-Hope byFrancisbd
With these clouds it looks like rain but, the shaft of light (drawn in?) gives hope of more sunshine to come. Highlights the tower as a focal point very well.
Clouds in the shade by Flan
Another great sky with the strip of landscape acting as the support act. You've done enough to emphasize the clouds without over doing it, well judged.
Moon and Sky by BraydenBise
Great to have an entry from across the pond. I just love the individual nature and artistic quality of this image. Two components take either away and the magic would be gone.
Puff the Magic Dragon by drofmit
Well spotted and great imagination, the splash of colour on the Puff making the image for me. A strip of silhouetted landscape to ground the image
End of Year Drama by Noelcmn
Threatening sky or what! Talk about compressing the landscape. Lovely line of colour across the horizon creating a divide and helping the eye into the image. Incredible you didn't get soaked.
Down the River by retsoor
A delightful scene that just wouldn't be the same without that lovely cloudy sky, the masts taking us from land and sea up into the sky.
Approaching Storm by RayW
The hedge and tracks taking me into the image and those clouds laden with water. Getting soaked was a small price to pay. These roving summer storms often give a great light and contrast as captured here.
Cirrus Uncinus- Mares' Tails by MikeInDevon
Last but, by no means least, pure sky . Beautiful cloud formation backed by deep deep blue sky, beautiful.
1st Place BraydenBise
2nd Place garethjmorgan
3rd Place davidwozhere
A hearty thank you and well-done to everyone else, tough having to pick a top three, it really was.
Over to BraydenBise
Best to you all
Nigel
