Thanks Mike for selecting my entry as the winner - there was some tough competition from imaginative photographers. I thought the subject was a very good one to stretch the imagination a little. such a pity there hadn't been more entries. My congratulations to John and Stan for their podium places.
The choice of subject for the next competition will be posted later today.

Now to start Monday at Ten to Eleven!! Heyho!!
Never be afraid to talk about your techniques...

Refraction by tyronet2000 – Very clever! A deceptively simply set up producing a virtuoso demonstration of Refraction and also subtlety hidden away Reflection. It bears intense study well! Very well thought out and executed.
pirsquared by davidwozhere – A nice play on the title to use a compass from a Geometry Set! The focus point on the tip of the compass is perfect. Again a very clever image devised with minimal equipment. The composition is great, to my eye the position of the centre of the partial circle is exactly right. I also like the diagonal shadows of the compass legs drifting off gradually into out-of-focus.
wood Geometric by sueriley – We are outdoors, an anti-slip decking type floor overlaid with angled shadows from right to left from some sort of balustrade. A repeated linear pattern structure combined with wood grain detail. The regular placement of shiny fixing screw heads glints in the sunshine. A single downy feather fixes the eye. All this somehow combines to give me a feeling of tension and unease, strange.
The Graffiti Wall Shuffle by johnriley – An urban street shot taken with the diminutive Q-S1. Impressively sharp, rain drops adorn the graffiti and vertical streaks of the falling drops can be seen. A lonely person wrapped up against the weather shuffles past oblivious to the graphic graffiti. They are dwarfed by an angular concrete structure. The graffiti is in stark black and white a seemingly random arrangement of curvilinear lines. The monochrome look is only broken by yellow double lines and a red no entry sign. A hard human made landscape that seems unfeeling, unfriendly and lonely. It makes my heart sink.
An abstract of angles by davidtrout – An amazing tangle of angles and lines, it’s another human construct but somehow this one lifts my heart. There is a dynamic upwards energy, an impression of a blue sky reflected off of inset glazing and facing panels. We glimpse a portion of some architects dream built, rather wonderful.
Times by Flan – A curious stone structure bridges over a stream, it is in disrepair with debris scattered in the waterway. The stonework has some elements fashioned with great precision, the circular ‘portholes’ built in arcs and key-pieces also the gently curved load bearing arches and keystones, contrastingly the remainder is a jigsaw of rough randomly shaped stone blocks. All is being overgrow with ivy, a tree branch can be seen through the near ‘porthole’. The photographer’s viewpoint is centred on the stream they are supported somehow looking precisely through the portholes. The eye moves about but is always pulled back to the ‘eye’ of the portholes. Time continues to ravage order into disorder. The geometric elements are limited but strong.
Triangular portrait by Noelcmn – A young smiling face is seen framed through the inverted triangle of an out of focus wooden frame. The face is sharp with catch lights in the eyes. The triangle of the frame is echoed in the face, eyes and nose. The direct gaze is magnetic, it’s hard to look away from this happy face.
Such a varied mix of images, I cannot help but be impressed by all your entries, some appealed strongly to my analytical mind and other produce an unexpectedly emotional impact. Images given to the eye and brain are a powerful but tricky thing, as Spock might say ‘Fascinating’.
My choices are:
1st Place - An abstract of angles by davidtrout
2nd Place - The Graffiti Wall Shuffle by johnriley
3rd Place – jointly: Refraction by tyronet2000 and pirsquared by davidwozhere
Highly commended is deserved to the rest of the entered images.
