Weekly #804 - Fire Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 05/02/2023
Judge: Nigelk

This week I'd like to see your best shot about fire. From the smallest candle flame to the largest bonfire and everything in between.
Being the weekly competition images can have been captured at anytime but must be taken with a Pentax camera or accepted clone.
The author of the winning image will be expected to set and judge next weeks competition.
I look forward to seeing your entries.
Good luck
Nigel

Morning All,
Thank you for your interesting and varied entries.
Fire can be a challenging subject with often great variations in brightness and movement offering the photographer both options and challenges.
On to my thoughts.

I fell into a burning ring of fire by Pipinmels
A cracking image to start the competition getting that amazing arc of flame and a basically static performer wow! On the technical side you have lost detail in quite a lot of the flame but, no doubt a stunning image.

Firmamental by Perspicador
You've chosen a fast shutter speed to freeze the firework at a good moment in its brief explosion, lovely combination of the burning compounds and smoke. The down side is needing a high ISO to have the fast shutter speed, the noise from which does degrade the image quality a little.

Earth, FIRE, Air and Water by sueriley
Beautifully executed still life, the fire cleverly edited into the glass and love the effervescing water but, not quite enough emphasis on the fire for me in this competition.

And what a lovely fire it is. Perfectly exposed, makes you want to pull up a chair and gaze into the flames. I keep flipping, part of me likes the texture the fire screen gives in front of the flames and part of me wishes you had removed the guard for the photograph.

The Fire Eater by garethjmorgan
Composition, content, great exposure across the frame and well timed shutter release, it's got to be my winner.

A Real Fire by johnriley
Another well judged exposure and a lovely feel good image. I would have cropped the top of the image a little to remove the wall light. Amelia looks as if she could settle in.

MERC ON FIRE by vic cross
Blimey! Real drama. If the flames and the smoke where not enough the inclusion of the fire fighter lets us know this was a real deal incident. I know it's asking a lot but it would have been good if we could have seen part of the car but, a fine documentary shot.

Hot hot hot by Noelcmn
I like that you've got us in close, lovely orange glow and all those wonderful burnt wood textures. A fine well judged study.

Indoor Fireworks-Read the instructions by tyronet2000
A very sad image, the aftermath of a house fire. Good composition and light coming into and through the image. A well captured melancholy shot.

Fire Tornado by PRYorkshire
That looks like quite a flame, it is a shame we have nothing in the image to help judge the scale, I would imagine it was very tall. You have lost the detail in the bottom section of the flame, tough ask to include it all, in such a fierce flame. It does make me want to visit and see this demonstration

My podium places are:-
The Fire Eater by garethjmorgan 1st Place
I fell into a burning ring of fire by Pipinmels 2nd Place
Indoor fireworks - Read the instructions by tyronet2000 3rd Place
And a big thank you and well done for the other entrants a good set of images, each telling its own story.
Best regards
Nigel

Quite agree, a worthy winner that, the details is just superb! Congrats garethjmorgan. And extended to Pipenmels and tyronet2000, whose image I thought was quite jarring, excellent documentary image! Thanks Nigelk for the challenge, the judging and C&C's, as always much appreciated.
