Halloween is upon us.... For this competition I would like to see photos of real spiders.... or artificial bats..... extra kudos if you submit a photo with both a real spider and one or more artificial bats. Can be a new photo or, as this is a weekly comp, drawn from your archives.... and must be taken with a Pentax camera or recognised Ricoh/Pentax alternative. Good luck!! |

Thank you for the win, surprising. I had that wolf spider for the top spot. Congrats to all the other placings here. Thanks to our Judge for the challenge, the C&C's, as always much appreciated. I'll have something up in a few moments.

All the fun and none of the work - Retsoor and I thank you for the second spot ! Noel's creepy spider is indeed just the job and a most excellent winner. Well done. Thanks for a fun contest Tim.

Thanks for entering... I was hoping for more pictures... still six has been difficult enough for me this morning!
Bats by garethjmorgan
They appear to be cracking up.... who's been telling them bat jokes!
Yes... artificial... and seemingly not frostproof...
Aperture f/1? I was going to suggest a shallower DoF to blur the background branch a bit more....
Espied her by Perspicador
Like this, simple... no web can be seen.... yet there is a spider seemingly in mid air and what looks like a smaller male creeping in from below! Like it...
Nice minimalist sihouette shot telling a story
Wolf spider by davidwozhere
Very nice macro, good DoF.... focus bang on the eyes... wonderful detail!
Like it....
Spiderlings by tyronet2000
The stuff of nightmares... especially with the colourings of black and yellow....so many scuttling bodies... touch anywhere here and they all dash away from the bunch.... and then, walk past half-an-hour later and the scene looks just like this again.
Nice macro shot of the mass start of a spider's marathon!
Garden spider by retsoor
Another nice macro shot, this time of of Arenius diadematus which used to be known as the Garden-cross Spider.... and the young ones on tyronet2000's hosepipe are most probably the same!
Well captured, lots of sharp detail including the messiest centre of a Garden Spider web I've seen.... too busy to tidy the room!
Orb web spider with catch by Noelcmn
Lovely spider this is.... like something from "The Nightmare before Christmas"
An Argiope species.... Argiope australis.
Perfect for an All Hallows competition.... could the back possibly be crisper... f/8 perhaps?.... not too sure as I don't know the species other than by pictures.
So, who's the top this week....
Orb web spider with catch by Noelcmn because of the Halloween scheme
Second equal placings go to....
Wolf spider by davidwozhere and Garden spider by retsoor
Third equal are....
Espied her by Perspicador, Spiderlings by tyronet2000 and Bats by garethjmorgan
Over to Noel for the next competition
