Weekly #776 - Butterflies & Moths Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 24/07/2022
Judge: MHOL190246

I am looking for images of butterflies and day flying moths. These can either be taken this week or from your archives. The usual rules apply, namely images must be taken with Pentax cameras or clones. The winner will be required to set next week's competition. Good luck - looking forward to some great captures.

Some lovely images which made judging all the harder!!I hope that my judging is acceptable
Vic Cross Butterfly on Lavender – a nice shot to get things going of a Small Tortoiseshell butterfly.. Good detail and the lighter colour of the Lavender serves to enhance the colouration of the specimen. The butterfly is nicely in focus and detail of the insect is clear and sharp

John Riley – Blue Morpho – the pink of the cardigan contrasts very nicely with the blue of the butterfly. It is pin sharp, and the fine antennae detail is highlighted by the zip fastener

Perspicador Butterfly – this is probably one of the most prolific butterflies about this year. I like the composition although the highlights are a bit blown – never easy with white! The camera seems to have overcompensated the dark background.

Mikeprotts – A Marbled White takes off – the view through the grass was a good idea but unfortunately the butterfly is slightly overwhelmed by the yellow flower heads

Pipinmels – Moth –A brilliant shot of the moth with its proboscis evident and good detail of the body. The pink flowers serve to emphasis the colours on the moth. The use of high shutter speed provide us with a sharp image

Simonmac – Flutterby – a lovely detailed shot of a Small Tortoiseshell at rest. Nice detail, pin sharp and the flower provides a great natural background.

Noelcmn – Butterfly – a pin sharp image showing great detail of the butterfly against a green background which makes the whole insect stand out,

Retsoor – Large Skipper Butterfly – another pin sharp photograph showing the Large Skipper in all of its glory. The leaf places it in its natural environment

Winner: Retsoor’s Large Skipper
Second: John Riley’s Blue Morpho
Third: Noelcmn’s Buttlerfly
HC: to Pimpinel’s moth
