Weekly #760 - Shakespeare Competition
Competition Details
Closing Date: 03/04/2022
Judge: garethjmorganThis week I'm looking for images inspired by the Bard, William Shakespeare. It can be a literal interpretation such as the Globe theatre in London or some Shakespeare related location in Stratford -upon-Avon - or something more imaginative based on the tile of one of his plays ; a character or even a quote from one of his works.

• The Bard by JAK – intriguing image – at first glance I wasn’t sure what I was looking out (obviously the narrative helps) Still a strong almost spooky image.
• Othello by PRYorkshire– a bright and breezy image with strong colours and shapes and leading lines taking the eye into the image – almost a pattern picture.
• Anne Hathaway's Cottage by RayW– good record shot of this iconic landmark. Well positioned within the frame and well exposed.
• An Open Book by NigelK– perhaps photographing one of Shakespeare’s books could be seen as a tad obvious but I think this is a super interpretation of the theme. The differential focus has been pitched perfectly – nice idea well executed
• Where the Bee sucks there suck I by MHOL190246 – super macro shot that speaks exactly to the quote and hence to the theme. Strong colours well handled; superb detail and loads of action in this image – a winner for me.
• Bard Bench by tomw– a different perspective with the rear view but obviously the Bard – interesting juxtaposition of the ancient and the modern. Well seen.
• Juliet’s Balcony by snakey - instantly recognisable and the concept is reinforced by the joyous pose of our “Juliet”. Works well in mono – I might have been tempted to crop in a bit tighter on the balcony/Juliet
• All the world's a stage... by Perspicador- a good interpretation of the theme. The bright colours of the shirts work really well – stage lighting is hard to handle; could have done with a little more light on the faces.
So it is appropriate to sum up with a quote from the Bard -
At gilded butterflies, and hear poor rogues Talk of court news; and we'll talk with them too, Who loses and who wins; who's in, who's out; And take upon's the mystery of things.
Congratulations to this weeks winner – “Where the Bee sucks there suck I” by MHOL190246 and to our joint runners up “An Open Book” by NigelK and “Bard Bench” by tomw
