Weekly #748 - Vegetables Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 02/01/2022
Judge: davidwozhere

Growing, harvested, processed, thrown on the compost heap or the dinner plate, there is scope galore here. As it is a weekly contest you can dip into your archives or take a fresh shot - as you please - but it must have been shot with a Pentax or an accepted clone.

Worried until the last minute almost that there would only be two to choose from.
I am very short of time presently and so must delay the write up until tomorrow. However, I have chosen the winner - RPLSF's Fresh Tomato.

Once again, please forgive my tardiness. This last week has been busy, to say the least.

Take your pick by MHOL190246
I expected a carrot with some oddity. This is quite a carrot and it is nicely photographed. It's nice to see a background of the right context too instead of a bland counter top.

Peppers by John Riley
Yes they do add a splash of colour John. The inclusion of the yellow ones at one edge really lifts the image and grabs the attention.

Veggie face by Vic Cross
You have produced a bit of a character here Vic. I can't excape the impression that the owner of this face ought to be wearing a kilt - dunno why! It's certainly a fun image.

Fresh Tomato by RPLSF
A very carefully considered image. The composition is spot on, the lighting is spot on, the depth of field is spot on. It is a well produced, classic still life.

Designer carrots and butternut by Noelcmn
A bright, attention grabbing shot that makes you study it and ask, "what is it?" It is nicely photographed but personally, I think it is cropped somewhat too tightly.

Fresh by Perspicador
It's a clean, simple shot and it works well.

Piment d'Espelette by Drofmit
This one was nearly first place due to its perfectly exposed bold colours, the sharp contrast between red and dark green and (like John Riley's 'peppers') the subject filled the frame with vibrant colour. Pity about that distracting figure in the left background !

I wonder if Vic stole his two peppers from here?

Thanks for the competition, the judging and the comments.... thanks also for the coveted 2nd spot.
Congrats too to RPLSF and that amaxing still life... I had that down as the winner!
And Rodney, that is a lovely plate of tomatoes.... nice one.

David, the guy in the background was a stall holder, unfortunately... and with everyone else around, this was the best shot I could get.
He was in fact wearing a white shirt which was a complete eyesore to the rest of the picture... so I "toned" it down. Perhaps I should have gone even darker....
and I adore Veggie Face!!
Never be afraid to talk about your techniques...
