Weekly #728 - Bronze, Silver, Gold Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 01/08/2021
Judge: andymat

Since the Olympic Games has started this week, I thought Bronze and/or Silver and/or Gold would be an interesting theme.

Entries do not necessarily have to be to do with sport or winning but I am looking for an obvious link somehow to one or more of these metals in some way or other, perhaps in a symbolic or physical way.

Standard rules apply for the weekly competition;
- Only Pentax cameras and acceptable clones.
- The winner is expected to set, judge and preferably offer their thoughts on the entries.
- You can shoot the entry this week or you are free to use images from your archives.
- The challenge closes on Sunday 1st August 2021 at midnight BST.

In anticipation…

No Bronze. No Silver, Vic Cross
A great collection of golden moments – no exactly what I was expecting but an interesting and fun entry.

Gold lantern surround, Perspicador
Looks like the Bass Rock with all the Gannets and the light house. An amazing spectacle. And if you took that from a boat, it looks nice and steady. And with a golden lantern hinting at the Olympic flame – clever.

Balcary Golden Sunrise, Johnwnjr
A lovely golden seascape. I love the blue colours intermingling with the golden reflections in the water. I wonder if the black silhouettes on each side could have a touch of detail revealed in post processing to give a gentler feel to a tranquil view.

The Thinker, PRYorkshire
I did wonder if I would get a bronze statue. This one looks like a great hulk of a casting and well weathered to highlight the sculptor’s skill although I have little clue about where he is or what he is thinking about other than, perhaps, France. Solid photo though.

Goldfinger, Retsoor
Or thumb perhaps. A good street photo although I think I would have been inclined to cut out the blue sign on the right as a little distracting. I really do not know how these people do this and stay still for so long. A nice portrait.

Heart of Gold, Noelcnm
What a lovely creation, a golden heart. It takes a few moments to realise what it actually is. Intriguing.

Golden Selfie, Nigelk
Well it made me smile! It is a well composed picture and a lot of fun. A good tip for all of us who do not have a fish-eye lens!

And the winner is…

Gold (1st): Golden Selfie, Nigelk

Silver (2nd): Heart of Gold, Noelcnm

Bronze (3rd): The Thinker, PRYorkshire

Thanks for entering everybody.

Well done to Nigel a worthy winner and also to Noel, again a cracking image.

If you get the chance to visit Paris I can recommend the Rodin museum. Not really into art itself but the sculptures and bronzes by Rodin are brilliant and very accessible so make great photography subjects.

Agreed, wonderful fun shot for the winner this week. Worthy winner-Congrats Nigel. And extended to my fellow poium placed PRYorkshire. Surpised at the 2nd spot, given that there are so many flaws to that image, Thanks Andy for that, the challenge and the C&C's. Always appreciated.
