Judging is not as easy as you think until you have to pick a winner.

well done to the winner Simonmac for the wonderfully atmospheric picture of Aberystwyth that kept me going back for a look more than any of the other images submitted.
a few comments below and its over to you for the next weekly.

1st Place Aberystwyth Simonmac
2nd PlaceLittle rays of sunshine peeping through the clouds Vic Cross
3rd placeSunrise in Algoa Bay Noelcmn

Every cloud has a silver lining.
im guessing this was taken on the move as the grey line looks like over head power cables to me. its blue and its the sky so it fits the brief...

Suffolk Sky.
Big brooding sky and the little white house putting everything in scale. very wide shot adding to the scale. A pano maybe ?

Something Wicked this way comes
Experienced a strange coloured sky going across the channel a few years ago but nothing quite as red as this. great abstract and i could easily see this on canvas on somebody's living room or bedroom wall.

Mount Hutt
Another big scene with a big sky with a very clearly defined horizonal lines of colour.

Threatening Skies
The black and white treatment certainly adds drama to the scene and can turn one of those grey sky's into something interesting and this picture is a good example of how to do it.

Skyscape 2005
Those two birds in the distance, perfectly captured and the dramatic sky is just an added bonus. but im a little confused of the terminology used in the description.
The word Holiday I'm not familiar with it. if anyone can explain what this word means in the comments it would be much appreciated...

Little rays of sunshine peeping through the cloud
Definitely the golden hour and that sun is intense. looks like it could melt the ship if it strayed into it rays.

Oozing atmosphere and kept me coming back for more. The photo is one thing but you were there seeing it for real. i hope you had a glass of beer or vino to enjoy it.

Coastal cloud
wish we were a bit nearer so we could see what was going on with the cranes and im not sure i would want to wake up every morning open the curtains and there's a giant wind turbine in my face but i guess they got to go somewhere. but its a big sky with either improving or worsening weather on that day.

Sunrise in Algoa Bay
a sunrise, something i don't see often as I'm not an early bird but if you got to look at that everyday it would be a good argument to do so. i can imagine sunsets are equally spectacular.

Many thanks to all those that submitted photos and letting me judge them but I'm happily passing the mantle to the next judge as this isn't as easy as i thought it would be.

Cheers everyone......

Thank you wozfromcov.

I had a cup of tea to hand at the time!

An enjoyable competition as I managed to avoid submitting a B&W image. It was a challenge.

Thank you for setting the competition and for your comments. And congratulations to those placed.

Time to get my thinking cap on.....

All the best

Hi Warren. Good competition. I told you judging is not easy. Thanks for the 2nd place. I said it before and I'll say it again. It's nice to win. BUT 2nd. or 3rd. Lots of glory non of the hassle. Congrats to Simon. and Noel.
Come on Simon what fiendish plan do you have for us this week?
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.

Congratulations to the winners. The query on the word "holiday" relates to the photo being taken on holiday in 2005 at the Bells's Heather Garden in Perthshire. John R

I jest.
For me it's been that long I've forgot what a holiday looks and feels like

Congrats Simonmac, worthy winner. Love the range of tones in that image! And extended to Vic Cross for his 2nd spot. And thanks for the 3rd spot, as vic noted, nice to win-2nd and 3rd - goes down well with me too. Thanks too for a super challenge, and C&C's-always appreciated.
