Weekly #711 - Little Boxes Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 04/04/2021
Judge: johnriley

This week, a picture of Little Boxes. This can actually mean anything from literally small boxes such as we might keep on a shelf or in a drawer, to high rise flats where the individual dwellings might be considered little boxes. All made of ticky-tacky as in the song? The choice is yours, everything from macro and close-up to architecture. Pentax cameras only please, images any age, usual exemptions for Pentax-made with other labels on.

It's a shame that there were not more entries, but those that were entered are just fine and definitely worthy of inclusion.

Let's get straight on with it, with Perspicador's Cathedral Back-drop. I like the central composition of this, with the knife man statue bang in the centre, or centre stage. The rlevance to Little Boxes stumpoed me for a while but I seem to be seeing now in that backdrop a mass of small houses between the windows. This might be an optical illusion, or it might be Perspicador being fiendishly clever and extremely subtle.

Oxo Boxes by PRYorkshire is a nice idea, although the idea of such unhealthy food being reduced in salt seems futile. Don't get me started on how removing salt from some foods removes most of the flavour as well. Interestingly, the wide aperture has been chosen to restrict the depth of field, something that is counter-intuitive, but that is a perfectly viable choice. Good shout.

johnwnjr brings us Overflowing Little Boxes, or maybe overflowing shelves, but pedantry aside, a great picture of a scene that could be sheer bliss for lovers of old books. There is a lot to love about the feel and smell of a proper book that an electronic reader just can't emulate.

MHOL190246 Lead Box What a fantastic box, with lovely detail. Lead is a very versatile material and this is a fine example showing great workmanship and all the fascinating signs of its age.

Nigelk Of Concrete and Glass Lovely colours and a great design to this image. That blue building on the right is brilliant and the offices or apartments it contains definitely qualify as Little Boxes.

vic cross Lockdown Essentials OK Vic, I'll go for that. A picture of Little Boxes with a concept, just the thing for a long weekend. We also need to add to that precision in the srrangement of the boxes as any lack there would spoil the shot.

So now to the winners. As there are very few entants this week I'm going to restrict things to the three places:

1st place goes to Vic Cross for Lockdown Essentials.

2nd place goes to MHOL190246 for Lead Box

3rd Place goes to Nigelk for Of Concrete and Glass

Well done to everyone else, all commended and fine photography all round.

Over to Vic!
Best regards, John

CHEERS Vic.
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.
