Weekly #645 - Sunshine competition Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 01/12/2019
Judge: drofmit

The Weather is dire...
and there is more on the way for this week...
so, please show me sunshine.
No sunrises, no sunsets...
just full-on daytime sunshine...
that should be open enough for everyone.
But watch the details...
it's easy to blow the whites...
and to bury vital detail in the shadow.

Pentax and associated cameras... and given the weather here, for many it will be a trawl of the archives!
Others may be more fortunate and can "shoot for the comp"...

Congrats mr.mellow. Fab shot, certainly speaks: "Summer" in volumes. Congrats extended to Perspicador and MHOL190246. Wonderful cahllenge, so many feel good images here, though right now I'd prefer some snow thank you, as we suffer yet another heat wave that has been going on for days now already. Thanks to our host and judge Drofmit!

Right, here we go....
Firstly, thanks everyone for entering.
There were a lot of lovely sunshine pictures...
and a few that didn't warm me at all!

Tal-y-Lyn from the train [Perspicador] - 2nd spot
Full of sunshine and interest... a really nice composition with the interesting hedgelines giving all sorts of lines for the eye to follow... I find that I'm zigzagging from top to bottom...
which I would be doing if I lived in the house in the middle!
Camera and binos to hand... interesting plants and birds... how much do they want for that house?

Hastings sunning itself [pipinmels] - Highly Commended
Classic British seafront. Lovely leading lines picture... even the clouds have cooperated. All in all a pleasant picture that could do with a tiny bit of straightening --- something I find that creeps in with the K-1... and a need to twist to the left to counteract.

St.Michael's Mount [davidwozhere] - Commended
Nice picture of an oft' photographed subject. Like the way the two separate foreground rocks echo the main subject and shore... picture within picture! Could do with some lightening in the shadow areas as it has lost detail trying to escape.

Boats on Derwent Water [MHOL19026] - 3rd place
Again, a picture that is full of sunshine and full of interest...
the only thing that stopped this from pipping Perspicador to the 2nd spot is the boats... a couple of steps backward and a slight twist to the right and all of all of the boats would be in the frame... as it stands, the bows of three of them have been chopped off.

Roker through a 10 Stop [tyronet2000]
A b&w shot of a December sun through a 10 Stop filter... sorry, it doesn't warm me at all. Composition is nice.

Cleethorpes Beach [mr.mellow] - Winner
This has so much sunshine that I went and had the last cornetto-alike out of the freezer!! And it has loads of interest... all the different groups of people... the mini-fairground... lots to see, lots to hold the eye... the East Yorkshire coastline over by Sunk Island on the horizon on the way to Spurn.... it even has the donkeys!! A lovely, summery sunshine winner.

Everything that sparkles [ken2390]
It didn't sparkle for me, sorry. It is devoid of interest, despite an interesting set of shapes.

Letras Salou [newbiek50user] - Commended
A rather nice memento picture... I would have waited until the couple behind the O had been obscured by the lettering... you could also crop some off the top and bottom making it more of a letterbox shape which would emphasise the lettering.

Winter sun... [Aitch 53]
Well, you've got the sunshine... you've even got a shadow.... but sorry, no, this leaves me cold.

Autumnal Sunshine [Nigelk]
Yup... you've got the sunshine! And a lot of interest... there is a nice, invisible diagonal to the composition. but, the sun isn't as full on as I'd've liked.

Sunflower and Butterfly [JAK] - Highly Commended
Lovely crisp shot from film... hint of a diagonal... very nice.
The Small Tortoiseshell stops the sunflow from being central...

Reading Forbury Gardens [GlynM] - Highly Commended
Nothing really to criticise... perhaps a slight widening to include the whole of the left hand tower... but cropped/composed along the same line at the bottom. Is there a bench nearby?

Sunshine after the Storm [Noelcmn]
Sunshine is there... but the shot is just too dark for my taste.
Nice set of leading lines, too.

River Thames at Benson Lock [EricD1306] - Very Highly Commended
Very nice... idyllic almostThe sort of shot that would make a very difficult 1000 piece jigsaw. The very red barge makes this shot... and the huge weeping willow and the post in the water, at the left, actually stops the eye from drifting out of the picture.... likewise the right hand post and the vegetation above it.

A rare sunny day in Snowdonia [retsoor] - Very Highly Commended
Strong sun, but not quite full on... it was a toss up between this one and Perspicador's shot... but there isn't quite enough interest in this picture... despite the proximity of one to the other.
Nice composition...some diagonals... slightly less contrast where the shadows are would have lifted the picture a little.

Worsley Packet House [johnriley] - Commended
Very nice architectural shot showing another frequently taken scene.
Just a bit too contrasty for me... especially down at bottom left and under the bridge... lifting the detail there would have pipped the Derwent Water boats.

I see the next competition is running.... good luck.
Never be afraid to talk about your techniques...

the same camera, lens and scene...
