Weekly #626 - Sport (except football) Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 14/07/2019
Judge: michaelblue

With Wimbledon half way through, I thought it would be nice to see some sport photos, particularly tennis.
Please NO FOOTBALL IMAGES, we have enough of it all year!
Photos must be taken on a Pentax/Ricoh and the winner to set and judge the next competition.

Only 5 entries this time but some nice ones anyway.

Archery: I must say I wasn't expecting archery but I like this. The depth of field seems just right to slightly blur the targets and I like the way the girl is positioned between the two targets. A lovely colourful image too.
Milwaukee Yamaha British Superbike Team: I've tried this type of shot so I know it's not easy (particularly with Pentax's poor 'autofocus tracking'). It looks like a high shutter speed was used as the wheels seem to be 'frozen' but hat doesn't matter in this case, a nice bit of 'zoom' adds to the picture...well done.
Serena in full flow: Tennis is my sport so happy to see this one. My least favourite player but this is a great capture! I'm glad you included the linesmen and ball kid to give it some context, good action shot and importantly...... the ball
Powerboat racing Carr Mill Dam: Don't these make for great photos? You've captured this well, nicely positioned in the frame, it does look a little dark though..maybe the metering was fooled by the white spray. Perhaps a small boost of brightness in photoshop ?
Bowler: What a great shot! Well done for not being tempted to crop the top and leaving half a fielder....however the man on the right??? was there more of him? I think a little brightening of the bowler would help, particularly as he is the main subject. As always with ball games "Include the ball" so well done there!

So here are my picks:
1st-Josh Brooks - Milwaukee Yamaha British Superbike Team
2nd-Nigelk-Serena in full flow
Joint 3rd-Bowler, Powerboat racing Carr Mill Dam, Archery

Thanks for your entries.....quality over quantity this week. Over to you Josh

Congrats Mannesty, excellent shot, oozes energy and speed! Also notices the "zoom", nice touch! And congrats extended to NigelK and my fellow podia placed Perspicador and Newbiek50user. Thanks Michael for the challenge and the C&C's. As for the umpire, this was one of a few quick shots, having seen it as I passed, a quick stop and shoot through the metal picket fence, which did not exactly allow manoeuvring the camera around much. And awkwardly sitting on my hunches did not help! Still, I should have thought about composition a bit more.

Thanks for the win Michael, Josh Brooks is the rider's name though, not mine. Well done to all for an excellent selection of diverse sports.

FYI, the 'zoom' effect was added using a texture layer to which I added some radial blur. The plain tarmac was too uninteresting. The shutter speed was fast at 1/1000th, I'd tried slower speeds to blur the wheels but the closing speed was too great and the rider and bike got blurred too.

"Lines" is the next subject. Enjoy.

Well done Mannesty. Thank you for your insights Michaelblue. Well done also to fellow contestants. To be honest I had expected the photo of Serena to win given the brief and the Wimbledon context.
