Weekly #623 - Landscape sunset or sunrise Competition

Competition Details
Closing Date: 30/06/2019
Judge: Noelcmn

A near universal subject for photographers, for this challenge I am looking for sunsets or sunrises.Hopefully it will attract a lot more entries. For this challenge I will be looking for 2 basic elements- composition and colour. Please note I am looking for landscape images. Sometimes zooming in on the sun can be very rewarding, but context and landscape can be lost. Good luck and I look forward to your entries

Usual rules apply:
1. Only Pentax cameras and acceptable clones.
2.The winner is expected to set, judge and preferably offer some comments/critiques of submissions.
3. You are free to use images from your archives, or take something new.
4. The challenge closes on Sunday 30 June 2019 at midnight BST.

Please note I am travelling at the end of this week, and will probably only be able to set the winners on Monday evening, though I will try to at least set the winner during the day via my mobile phone.

Thank you all that entered the challenge, I am gratified with the submissions, and despite the low number of entries, wonderful batch of images to review. I will add the following comment- All entries fit the brief in terms of colour and composition making this judging exercise rather difficult, and pushing me towards a subjective choice. Here are some thoughts

Perspicador- Edinburgh Twilight - As usual, Perspicador kicking off proceedings and setting the bar very high indeed. This is an awesome composition, with a really good range of tones in this sunset. I like the little bit of the castle on the left too!

GlynM- Canal Sunrise-An exquisite piece of work, with just about every bit of photographic genre here, except perhaps Macro. Reflections, landscape, silhouettes, mist and light! Undeniable envy emanating
From down south of the equator.

Vic Cross- Fire in the Sky-Caribbean Sunrise- Well, I am nit doing so good on the envy control here 😊. Just love those overlapping layers in this image, and as with Perspicador, lovey range of tones. I think a bit of straightening would be in order.

Pipinmels-Turkey- Well, yes, I had wondered what connection turkeys and Sunrises/sunsets have- being partial to the edible turkey! Until I saw the pic. I had hoped that there would be at least one image that had an element of Juxtaposition Ugly Industrial and Beautiful sunrise/sunset, which I may add is not as-easy-as-it-sounds enterprise, with the temptation to over-emphasise the one at the expense of the other. And here it is! Wonderful shot, wonderfully balanced, colour tone range very good, and a bonus reflection of the sun! Lucky you! Visiting such exotic places.

JAK- Winter Sunset-I am of the opinion, an untested one at that, that winter months produce better sunsets than summer, not sure if I can give a reason too. This would give me some ammunition. Beautiful shot with so much to explore here! And I just want to jump over or go through that gate and get to that tree for a bit more of that warmth coming from that bright sun. Appreciate the control exercised with that harsh sun. Well done!

NewbieK50user- Sunset at Cleveleys Applaud your bravery in going for some flare. Always a risk when shooting sunsets and sunrises, and youve opted to utilise it. And I like it! Stunning composition even with the titbit of the rocks cut off to the right. The subtle pastel tones are ever so nice, as is the starburst from the sun. Great that you shot it in the week of this challenge- Way to go!

Snakey- Suffolk Sunset nice achievement here- Sunset with drama! Solid composition, and wonderful colour range here. A spot to linger, and Id certainly do so until it was dark!

Michaelblue- Lake Vrynwy-Mid Wales. Well, from what Ive heard, the beauty of Wales is legendary, and that would certainly be the message here. As with GlynM, just about every genre here-Reflections, Silhouettes, framing and drama to boot! And colours! I am in two minds about the framing with the leaves on the right. I try it regularly, and always feel odd and out of place. Theres a bit of that here, but more an appreciative contextual element.

Having spent the day in Addo, and got a both a sunrise and a sunset, I am amply supplied with feel good emotions at the moment! And then I must go and choose a winner!

1st -Perspicador- Stunning composition!
2nd - GlynM-Exquisite shot!
3rd Piinmels Hot turkey 😊

Happy to award HCs to the other entries. Just as a matter of interest, my 25 year old niece helped me with choices, and we are in dispute over the winner. I tell the youth of today 😊. But she at least understands my choice.

Many thanks Noel for for setting a subject that attracted a wonerful collection of beautiful images and your excellent reviews. Judging wise it must have been really difficult and I am impressed with your approach on what must have otherwise been a busy day.

Lots of thanks also for awarding my entry the coveted 2nd place .

Congratulations to Rodney for the winning picture, fellow podium member Philip and everyone else for such quality of entries.
