An old partnership by Perspicador

A good record shot but for a competition photo I feel it requires a bit of work on it.
The prominent red colour of the rider is ideal and helps make the subject stand out, but there is a competing red figure in the background that draws the eye to the wrong place.
Ideally you'd have the horses approaching or side-on rather than showing their backsides and watch the bottom of the frame where the hooves are touching the base. Sometimes it can help to create as bit of border space by adding some blank space and in this case just clone some sand into that space. As to that red figure in the background why not simply clone him out?

Please bIear with me with the comments this time as 've just spent the weekend in hospital. Some I wrote last wekl some today.

Got my own lunch by mikeprotts

What a fabulous capture. The young bird (I'm not sure what it is either) looks quite sharp. What I feel would help it is to crop out much of the bordering water, particularly that disturbing dark area on the left and slightly increase the overall brightness of the image as the bird is a little dark. I would have thought that any software used to auto adjust the exposure would hit the optimum pretty well spot on.

A Good Find by Nigelk

That's really good Nigel, you've nailed the depth of field to where it matters. Have you considered cropping off some of the out of focus foreground as it doesn't seem to add anything to the image and doing so would put the subject matter on around the lower third which would give the ant space to go into?

On the Prowl by Abe_Normal

Wonder if he/she is in captivity or the wild.

If the later a fantastic capture.

This might have been oh the top spot were it not forasome softness, not sure whether that's focusing or shake. JustI love the Eolf's expression you've captured. That sly 'foxy' look!

wolf spider by davidwozhere

From one wolf to anther! Wonder if he/she is in captivity or the wild. (Didn't I say that a moment ago?!) This one looks extra scary. Hope your bedroom isn't part of its terrrotory! Nice and sharp where it matters, Fab image!

Cinnabar Moth Caterpillar by retsoor

Sorry to be brief. I don't think you cold have achieved a better capture of these Caterpillars. Simply well done.

Preparing for the future by noelm

A bit of thinking outside the boc with this. Sustainability of life on earth. Now there's a theme for another competiton some time.
You've captured a very moody sky with the white turbine posts standing out well against it, all in all an interesting piece of current social/industrial history. Do you like your M 75-150? I've had one since about the time they first appeared to replace a Tamron 70-150 that was stolen from me.

Millions of the things by vic cross

I'l take you word for that and let you do the counting! Flamingos to infinity
An iressistible subject. With flamingos I've sometime found that the pink burns out to white. That hasn't happened here.
You'vw brought back quite few of these grest scenes fom your safaries, Armand and Michaela Denis style. Who did I hear some ask?
Lovely dcene, well captured than you for entering it.

Half Collared Kingfisher by Noelcmn

A stunner to close the proceedings. Really fantastic. Prehaps it helped being in semi captivity. I doubt the rest when you get them won't be nay better!

Thanks for the 3rd. place JAK. Well done to all the others. I like coming 2nd. or 3rd. as it means I don't have to judge the work of anyone else. It's nice to win now and then but 2nd. or 3rd. is good too.
CHEERS Vic.
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.

Congratulations to all the podium places and the other HM. Thanks for my HM. Also thanks to JAK for an interesting subject. Thought I may have been too far out of the box with this one so the HM was a pleasant surprise. As for the M 75-150mm, it was bought S/H in the late '90's but normally lost out to the longer range of the Tamron F3.8 - 4 , 80 - 210mm so didn't get a lot of use. Both of them were retired when my eyesight 'failed' and auto focus became the name of the game. Eyes sorted a few years ago and last year decided to take the M 75-150mm on holiday for a play. I was delighted with the quality when fixed to the K10D as shown in 'Preparing for the Future' especially as this was shot in jpeg. I normally shoot in RAW.

CHEERS Vic.

Just what I was hoping for too! Chuffed with the win though, adds more pleasure to that sighting. Congrats to my fellow placed Podium Davidwozhere and Vic Cross and not forgetting the HM's Retsoor and noelm. Thanks to our Judge for the 1st place, and the judging exercise. As always much appreciated. I'll have something up momentarily.

Thanks for your kind words. I wasn't sure about the light levels, as making it brighter gave a rather artificial look to the reflections, so maybe a tighter crop would have been the better option.

Cheers

I had all those placings on the same line so thought it looked a little confusing.
Sorry about that, having had a stroke last Friday and spending the weekend in the acute stroke unit it took quite a bit of effort to complete the task today.
Hopefully I'm not too bad (or I'd still be there.)

Thank you for the 2nd place - it was a wild spider on the rockery. She is less than 1cm long. You will have seen dozens of them but never really noticed perhaps. They are very territorial and return to the same haunts, where, if a camera lens is seen often enough, they pay it no attention at all, leaving you to take their portraits.

Super kingfisher Noel. The colour is magnificent though I wouldn't like to be in Vic's crowd of flamingos - nice image but it must pong something awful!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Sorry to hear you were in hospital over the weekend. Hope you make a full recovery. Well done for getting the results out so soon.
