Crumbs! There was I earlier in the week thinking I didn't have anything suitable other than an ancient colour slide which may or may not have been taken with a Pentax. However It was that old it was more than likely taken with my first SLR, a Zenith so ruled that out just in case. Most of my subsequent Amusement Park shots were taken on Super 8 film when we took the scouts to such places. But had nothing from my digital Pentax era.
Fortunately, living near the seaside gave me the opportunity to visit one of the local amusements, in this case Bridlington, but at this time of the year they are not operating and the areas locked away. Perhaps that was a blessing in disguise as there were no parents around to give me dirty looks which seems to have been quite a problem in the UK since the Ian Huntley case.
So when I had the opportunity, off I went to Brid with Carol8345's brief keeping my fingers crossed I could find something. The Toon Town Express roundabout, while locked out of reach, was colourful and had a movement look, even though it wasn't moving, so seemed to fit the brief. I managed to find a reasonable viewpoint from outside the barricaded area and to my surprise it has proved to be this week's winner.
The image was mildly HDR'd from a single MX-1 raw file in EasyHDR3, worth a mention as this topic has recently been discussed but that program didn't get a mention. However, as I said, crumbs!

So thanks for the judging and the 'award', it made the journey to take something worth the while. I look forward to reading the comments as and when they are published. I had already thought of a theme for this week's competition (just in case I won - hope that doesn't come across as being too arrogant, but really not!) So will post that up shortly but I didn't really expect to have to do so given my hastily produced entry. Also well done to each and everyone else who entered.

Congratulations John, that is a fine image, so very well composed, and love those buildings in the background. Think it is an excellent documentary shots, with those (dare I say typical British weather) clouds there, and somewhat forlorn feel to it all. And stunning colors to fit the brief. Worthy winner imho. Thanks to our host, Carol8345, for the challenge and the yet to be submitted comments. Not a great number of entries, which is a pity, for what I thought was an exciting subject. Still top quality images as usual.

Sorry for the delay, but work is a priority. I'm not real versed on technical aspects, but I do know what I like.

Performing Parrot by Perpicador - Nice photo of a Parrot, the little guy has nice yellow and blue, and actually shows signs of being a performing parrot. However, I would have like to see him with some sort of toy or prop which I think would have added to the theme.

Grand Autodrom by kh1234567890 - Good colors in this image well focused night shot, exposure looks great. But I think a closer vantage point, and a little cropping would have brought me in a little closer. I really can't see the subjects here.

All the Fun of the Fair by tyronet2000 - Great image, stays with the theme. lots of color and motion. I love the way the dad has the smirk on his face, the boy is having a great time and the little girl just wants to pose for the camera. Good job!

Here we go. AAAAHHHH! by vic cross- Great capture, good timing. The image gives the feeling of a roller coaster, another awesome image!

Laughing horse by davidtrout - rich color, crisp edges , nicely done.

Disneyland by paulb531 - Ahhh Disneyland what a magical place. Nicely focused well framed nice image.

Kids Jungle Gym by Noelcmn - Beautifully framed great color, it gives me the feeling of a day at the park

Toon Town Express! by JAK - This is one of those images that pops out at you, the HDR gave it that "wow" factor, this looks fun and whimsical. Congratulations JAK

3rd - All fun at the Fair
2nd - Here we go. AAAAHHHH!
Winner - Toon Town Express!

OK Jak, it's all yours..lol I want to thank everyone who joined, believe me choosing a winner is harder than it seems. Congrats to all !!

Thanks for the 2nd. place Carol. I didn't think I'd do so well as you asked for colour and mine is mostly yellow. Well done to all the others. Some good shots in there.
CHEERS Vic
PS. I don't think I've been to Brooklyn but I've been to the Bronx, Harlem, (to the Globe theatre) China Town. 5th. Ave etc. Shopping in Saks. All while working over there in the 70's 80's and 90's.
Vic.
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.

Just to add my congratulations to Vic Cross and tyronet2000 for their placings.
Vic's second placed entry features some great facial expressions from the youngsters but these are slightly lost by the photo being a little under exposed (due to matrix metering perhaps?) Even so, if this had been processed from a raw file (I'm presuming it wasn't) those expressions would have shown up better and the yellow 'cars' would have come out brighter and more colourful with the end result it would surely have toppled my entry. It is a really lovely photo Vic.

CHEERS jOHN. It is quite heavily cropped and I did brighten it up a bit but then when I chose it I chose the original instead of the brightened one. Silly me. By then it was to late to alter it as it was already up and posted. I suffer from the I. D. 10. T. syndrome. That is. I DEE TEN TEE. better known as IDIOT. I'll put the brightened version in the gallery.

Now seen that Vic. With that version you've lost most the sky tone. If you can do a shadow boost and highlight reduction on the one here it nearly copes and should you have it as a raw file to work from all would be great as you'd have more dynamic range to work from!! Also many HDR type programs can work with a single raw file (given a multi exposure would have been pointless with your roller coaster shot!) DNG is the most compatible and an HDR image doesn't have to look OTT, it can be made to look quite natural if you wish; worth a try if you haven't already.
I note you applied -1 EV, perhaps a slight +ve might have been better given it was against the sky, or use centre weighted metering so it bases the exposure on the subject rather than the whole frame.

Vic.

I also asked for motion, both the roller coaster photo and carousel gave motion, the toon photo knocked color out of the park. I also like laughing horse a lot, can I pick a 4th?

Well, if you ever come back to the area, let me know

4th is usually recorded as 'Highly Commended' (HC) so you just have! Well done David too!
