| Description | |
I've always appreciated images of pencils, crayons and even typewriters none of which I have ever gotten right in my own attempts. This challenge is for anything related to writing, and I hope is wide enough in scope for broad range of images, from macro to historical. Well I hope there is some historical piece of writing, a museum piece depicting how our forbears recorded things. And If I am lucky, I may even get some cave art, all of which are connected to "writing". Anything connected with writing in one way or another. Usual rules apply: shots must be taken with Pentax/Ricoh bodies or Samsung DSLT equivalents and entries close this coming Sunday. You can take something specific during the next few days, or else simply enter a shot from your archive - there are no date restrictions. I'll post the results DV on Monday morning. |

Congratulations Stan on your beautiful winning entry. Thank you Noel for my 2nd placing, I’m delighted! It’s my first go at one of these competitions and I had so much fun. Well done Wendy on 3rd place, Paul, Tim and Kevin on your HMs, and everyone who entered. It’s really interesting to see how everyone interprets the subject so differently
Kind regards, Yvonne

1st place- Tyronet2000- Old word-processing.
2nd place-Puffacake – It hurts
3rd place-Wendy-A bit cheeky
HM’s to Paulb531, Dromfit and Kree.
Over to you Tyronet2000.
Perspicador – Arthur’s Seat- Fabulous opening shot, informative map. Lovely and sharp, certainly got my interest and I’d want to include it in my bucket list. Impressive details you’ve got here.
Gwb67- Act 2, scene 1- Ah the Bard. This is a very interesting shot, and I am drawn to all the footnotes in this one, and wondering if you are the producer of a Shakespearean play, an actor, or a prop. I like the composition on this one too- at an angle, leaving some lines for anyone unfamiliar with the Bard, to contemplate what it’s all about.
JohnRiley- Motoring Memories- Excellent work here. If you had not told me it was PS, I’d have thought it was a poster at a museum. Absorbing nostalgia, every bit scanned with the eye to pick out the familiar, some of which are around this part of the world too, others, not. Which wants me to go googling a bit or the ones I do not know, being partial to history as I am.
Wendy – A bit cheeky- Very fine photography here, timing ever so spot on. Action, action and more action. Dust and dirt not lost on me. And capturing the expressions on the faces of spectators is a bonus. And a good laugh too boot! Well done!
Paulb531-Coloured pencils - I gather you must be really good at macro photography, if this was an early attempt. Great shot, just what I was looking for, so sharp and amazing details. Fabulous colors to go with a fabulous composition. Super shot!
MarqueeMoon-Green Graffiti - I am partial to Graffiti, (only yesterday I went out and scoured around Johannesburg for a few more for my collection) and you’ve piqued my interest. Great documentary shot, gritty too, what with that bit of paint missing and what appears to be weeds, suggesting a juxtaposition between a really important message (as graffiti sometimes is) and it being lost in the ravages of time.
Davidwozhere – The rise of paffions – Lol. What a great find! And a great, if somewhat difficult read. I am impressed with the skill displayed here. No Flash? Deliberate to retain that oldy world feeling to those pages and its aged color. Amazing details on those edges and paper lines. And as with Gwb67, parts left out leaving you frustrated and wanting more!
Tyronet2000 – Old word-processing- What a fabulous shot! So much here to appreciate, feathers, the beautiful contrast of the ink pot, calligraphy, nostalgia. But it’s that background that intrigues me the most. Wood grain details excellently captured, and rendered in dark grey tones. Unusual, but ever so beautiful. And the details on the feathers is astounding!
GlynM- 100 lines- LOL and LOL again. Such a lovely shot this, not only because of those repetitive lines, but also because there is an echo in all of us here. I certainly have not seen this one before, so no problem on that score. But I am looking at this again and again, and feel the pain . Photographic magazine- Pentax lenses, a credit card, and a note that will simply not work! The wife is needed Cracking details. Very appealing shot this!
Davidhamiilton- Reflections of a Pentax user. Simply love the simplicity of this, and as with GlynM, echoes in the mind here. Important notes left in unimportant places! Like that you’ve focused on the writing on the mirror side of this. Once again, I appreciate the details here, the bits of scraped off paint. And I must mention that the note of mystery is not lost on me! Get the autobiography going.
Ken2390-Modern cave writing. Excellent composition, and lovely pastel colors. And juxtaposing the old weather beaten, lichen/moss covered rock, with some modern writing works ever so well here. And as with so many others, the details is wonderful, from the cracks in the rocks and the moss/lichen, and of course the writing. And top marks for the excellent texture on this-those rocks feel rough.
Puffacake – It Hurts- LOL! See so many of this kind of thing in SA, and always makes me laugh. Great shot, beautiful lines, composition is wonderful, focusing on the parts that matter. Ah the pain, everything else about the car speaks of new, sparkling, something to admire, and then the dent! Reflections and a starburst add a lot to the appeal. I like it a lot!
Dromfit- Seventy five years ago – Awesome shot! Loaded with history, taking us back to the reality of that awful war. Stunning textures, and a keen photographers eye to boot. Fascinating reading, albeit that one cannot escape the confusion that war usually brings to life. In that context, this piece of history is sufficient enough to jolt us back to the reality of war. Good for you, that you are connecting us to history, albeit that we would like to forget it, and some even want to deny it.
Kree - Perception – This is a wonderful shot, minimalist to a T and the focus firmly on that bottle cap. I think the B/W works very well here. Love the arty presentation of something familiar set in an intriguing background. Excellent composition!
