With the past couple of weeks being quite a busy one in the sporting calendar, I feel it could be appropriate time to go all Sporty. So I would like to see photographs with a sporty theme, anything from athletics, motorsport to tennis. The sporting world is your oyster, so long as it shot on a Pentax that is… |

Well, this is a bit of a shocker , a very pleasant one I may add considering the high quality of entries in this challenge. Thank you Stephen. Appreciate this. Look forward to your comments. Great challenge! I'll have a new challenge up shortly.

Amazing shot Noel. To be honest I would have struggled to compete with that in the North sea!

The Bearded Surfer – Noelcmn
Really strong image that I particularly enjoyed. I really like the position of the surfer in the frame, you have left space for him to move into the frame and the colour of the sea great. The image is nice and sharp, you have managed to capture the look of concentration on the surfers face and the movement in the wave. In a word fantastic.
Rough Sport – Ken2390
Plenty of action in this shot, not sure if this is sport or not I personally think its approaching madness! Having said that you have managed to capture the bright colours and the madness on track well.
Trampolining – Davidhamilton
You have managed to freeze the action well the image is nice and sharp. There is nothing particularly wrong with the picture but I think it may have been stronger taken from a lower angle capturing a little more of the child’s face and maybe emphasising the height of the bounce…
Shropshire hills by Paraglider – michaelblue
I like the light in on the hills in the background of the image and the canopy of the paraglider. The subject is well positioned in the frame, I think the background maybe would benefit from a little more contrast. Personally I think I would have experimented by converting the image to B&W and colour popping the paraglider… Anyone any idea what on the back of the paraglider seat?
90Kilo Power House – Stu62
Wow – I really like the colour, the light on the weightlifter and the effort expressed on his face really says personal best. The windows, with the reflection and clutter on the window sills I find a fraction distracting it’s a shame it was not just a plain block wall, however I don’t think you could have done much about this. I don’t think I would have fancied asking him to do it again in another location!
Catching the breeze – Nmag
I like the idea behind this image, you captured the action and light on the boat well. The title of the image suited the subject perfectly, I think the subject is a little soft, I am not sure if this is due to the focus or slight movement, I think a little more sharpening in Photoshop would probably have helped.
This looks like fun – Tyronet2000
Another colourful image well seen and well shot. The subjects certainly look like they are having fun, it’s a good record shot, although this image has more action than the last canoeing image the action still did not say sporty as much as some of the others…
Angle of Attack – Simonarron
Wow I got the strong sense of deja vous with this image, same title, same photographer and the same corner as the one I judged as winning weekly 381… I think this image is even better than that one, because the background is simpler and composition stronger. I love the fact you have the kerbs running from top left to bottom right and the fact that the lead bike is angled at the same angle as the kerbs is fantastic! Very well seen and captured.
Kite Surfing – Mudge
I really enjoyed looking at this image, the photographer has managed to capture the action just at the right moment and the spray nicely frozen. I have no idea how the surfer has the time / strength to have only one hand on the kite, I would be hanging on for dear life! I think it was a good decision to present this image in B&W, with the surfer being in a dark colour he stands out well against the background.
Boy Racers! – johnriley
I enjoyed the humour and the different perspective used in this image. I also quite like whatever treatment it’s had in Photoshop, however I felt other images suggested the “sporty” theme better…
Canoeing – Perspicador
Technically the image has been well see and recorded, but compared to other images this one is quite a sedate version of sporty. Although I think the simple background works well with the colours of the canoeists, perhaps a sedate sporty image needs a bigger landscape to add the required drama.
I had a really tough choice between the top two images this week, in the end I decided on:
1st - The Bearded Surfer – Noelcmn
2nd - Angle of Attack – Simonarron
3rd - Kite Surfing – Mudge
HC - 90Kilo Power House – Stu62
