Weekly #389 - Celebration Competition

Thank you everyone for your entries. I hope the subject didn't put anyone off but with Christmas, I suspect there were many other priorities for people.

Please note as usual that this is a bit of fun - there are no prizes - and my opinions will be different from those who took the pictures.

Celebration - John Riley
Well this is different and I'm not even sure I know how it was put together. Multi exposure or overlaid in post processing? However it certainly gets across the feel of a busy pub celebration and the more you look at it the more you see. It coveys the atmosphere of the occasion and in an innovative way.

Honouring the Full Moon – Batfink
Initially looking at this on my iPad, I found this picture it a bit dark, but then it is at night (!) and looking the larger computer monitor you get a better feeling of the place and the event. I think a tighter (perhaps square) crop around the woman would give a better composition but I really like the fact you have the 2 light sources well balanced and managed to capture all those flames from the torch.

Summer solstice in music – Perspicador
A lovely picture of the two girls enjoying creating their music. I had to work out the exposure but I think it works out at 1/15th of a second and I wonder if a shorter exposure would have been better at freezing the girl on the left’s arm. However you are already at f/4 and 800 iso so maybe there is not so much room for manoeuvre.

What a wonderful woman and I hope you all helped her with the cake! And a great record of a celebration. I hope you have got over the disappointment of being turned down by now?!


Lost the Rhythm at the Comice... – Drofmit
Another great record of a celebration with a comic twist! I like the razzmatazz of the event and the semi-chaos of the halted parade. Nice picture, nice composition.

I nearly didn't enter this week as we have had an awful lot on...
and I have been very tired come the evenings.
But I was less tired yesterday, so gave it a go.
You'll probably find that everyone was too busy playing with their....

Mine was a 2 Terror-bite portable hard drive...
now... I can try shooting raw!
Personally, I liked the movement in Perspicador's picture...
it showed they were playing and not posing...
they really enjoy their music those two...
shows in their expressions.

Thank you for the informative comments on each entry and for my third place. It would have been better if I stupidly hadn't done the shoot in JPEG! I had forgot to switch it back to Raw...doh. I think you may be right with the crop suggestion and I will attempt it again as the lady in question is my girlfriend.

Congrats JohnRiley-a fine complex image that exudes celebration. And of course Dromfit and Batfink are congratulated. Thanks Andy for the subject and the judging. Btw, I ask the old dear every week (nothing wrong with persistence you know) but her resolve is unmoved.
