Not many entries, but that just makes my life easier. I am not a professional so these are just my opinions.. Thank you to all who entered.

Flash, he'll save everyone of us. Nigelk
Nice title, also an eye catching picture. A very different use of flash, to what I had envisaged.

Light Night at the Nottingham Contemporary. Perspicador
Nice subject, close to my heart if you look through my portfolio. The flash hasn’t burnt anywhere on this image. I could almost say there was no flash. Very nice use of fill in flash..

Snowdrop Macro. JAK
This subject lends itself very nicely to flashlight work. If you are fortunate enough to have a ring flash.Very nicely lit.

Dragon fruit. Fenbeckle.
I do like this style of photo with flash. Black background has not picked up any of the flash, and the fruit is also nicely lit, without any over burning of the colours.

Fill flash Cardinal. Chrisseager
Very nice, very well lit. The flash can be seen as a highlight in the birds eye. Very nice image. Not something I would have thought of, using flash on a bird, or any animal.

Nut and bolt. davidwozhere
Nice bit of studio flash work here. I have tried this on some metal items I have made, but never as good as this.

Katydid. Noelcmn
Another nice fill in flash. Very bright flower, maybe distracting too much from the subject..

Ostrich. Paulb531
I seem to use the word “nice” a lot, but again a very nice study of a feathered friend. I like the use of fill in.

1st place goes to Fill flash Cardinal, by Chrisseager
2nd place goes to dragon Fruit. Fenbeckle
3rd place goes to Flash, he’ll save everyone of us. Nigelk..

Well done to Chrisseager, Fenbeckle and NigelK for your places and thank you pipinmels for the task, judging and comments. Perhaps someone could explain how it possible to take a flash photograph yet have the exif show: Flash Fired: No (enforced) ? There are two that have that!

Congratulations to the winners As for exif I find it completely unreliable with flash. It will often not show third party non TTL flashes; with my Metz it's a hit and miss, even if the flash has obviously been fired; with a Neewer universal flash I have, it never shows.

I guess not many members use flash. I know I don't most of the time.
Well done to the winners.
Well chuffed with my third place thank you Philip, no one expects the unexpected. I was going to call it "Ready Steady Go" but that Queen song from Flash Gordon kept going around my head and so it was named.

And I've been cussing you ever since I saw it. I can't shift it out of my head! But well done on your placing.
I had the cardinal and the dragon fruit as likely winners too, so well done the two of you.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass
