Thank you for your entries, now the tough bit.

Yorkshire Tea Loaf by Aitch53
Nice shot of a lovely looking cake, just a shame the front of the slice is going out of focus. You've cleared the decks so a nice clean uncluttered shot.

Donald's Box by johnriley
The black background really showing the lovely colours and patina of the box off, lovely and sharp from front to back.

Home-made scrubs by Perspicador
Nice to see a very topical entry, gives the image relevance.

Truly Scrumptious by JAK
I love home made bread, nice arrangement keeping it up close and without distraction, slight nit pick the crust near the centre is just out of focus, as it's pretty central I think it needed to be in focus (I have to separate the images somehow), looks good enough to eat.

Homemade Pizza by GlynM
Another mouth watering entry, I like that you've taken it at the end of baking in the oven makes for as slightly different shot.

Hanging bird table by mr.mellow
Nice to see some up cycling, nice looking bird table in a lovely looking setting a bird or two feeding would have been the icing on the cake.

Too hot to handle...too hot to cut by drofmit
A good looking loaf there, I like your use of the oven glove to frame the bottom of the image but I think that some of the background clutter could have been moved to make a cleaner shot.

1st place goes to GlynM
2nd place to johnriley for technical quality
3rd place to Perspicador for topicality

Thank you all for taking the time to enter, I only had breakfast a couple of hours ago, I'm now feeling hungry already thanks to some of these

Thanks for a fun competition Nigel and congrats to GlynM for the winning pizza... sorry, photo!
Congrats, also to the other podia... a true heirloom and a smiling nurse [look at the eyes!]
Yes, a tough choice to find a winner.... and I waited until I'd eaten before coming back at this!!

"some of the background clutter could have been moved to make a cleaner shot"
Errr? That was the shot... you spotted the oven gloves... but central to the background was the pan that made the dough, to its right is the flour dredge for doing the second knead and shaping and on the left in the background is the baking tin out of which the loaf had just come! All four stages of baking bread at home.
I obviously didn't make the story clear. sorry.

drofmit the story is clear and the image certainly works in that respect, no need for sorrow. For me the brightness of the pan and all the other items distract attention from what should be the star of the show, the magnificent loaf. I can but express my personal opinion, whether you should take any notice is another matter.
Keep shooting, enjoy and stay safe

Nigel, I do see what you are getting at... but to me, my loaf, alone is as boring as Hades with the fires out... and worry not... I'll keep shooting.
The whole point of photography is that everyone has a different viewpoint... that scrumptious cake say to me... "Here's a cake" and nothing else... whereas Rodney's "Scrubs" is both poignant and topical... especially with the nurse smiling... and tells a story... I'm just not a lover of technically perfect shots, I suppose.

Wow, many thanks Nigel for the win which I was not really expecting . I thought it was an excellent competition subject and felt the number of entries was a little disappointing.

The pizza shot was quite a challenge, timing wise, the mix of lighting, (particularly that our oven only has a light on one side), the heat with the door open and the need to serve it and the side salads quickly. So I was not complexly happy with the result but it was certainly fun to do and as someone who usually tackles these competition shots slowly, often with more than one attempts, found it a new experience.

Congratulations to my fellow podium members John & Rodney and everyone else for rising to the challenge.

I will endeavour to get up a new subject this evening.
