Forgotten gate

I stumbled across this once-white picket gate whilst out walking. It seemed very enigmatic as it didn't lead anywhere.
The dappled sunlight through the trees caused a few exposure problems, which I tried to solve with HDR (Haworth Dodging Repeatedly) in Gimp2
