Mold and feather

by davidwozhere

This one is from last autumn that has only just got to the top of the queue!

It's an unknown slime mold that has gorged itself silly, stopped moving about and matured on a rotten birch log. Its final act was to rupture its outer covering and shed bits of itself with its spores.
The wood pigeon feather was a 'value added' bonus that, together with the ruptured cyst, effectively divides and competes for one's attention. This would ordinarily be a compositional error but in this case I love the way you have no choice but to move between the two, which compliment each other so well.

Please view it full sized for best effect. The lens is a Takumar f3.5/200.
