Hair Ice

by MikeInDevon

Taken on 25th in one of our regular mutt walking places, Blackborough Woods which is near to home in rural Devon.

Several times this January I found Hair Ice on rotting Birch twigs and small branches. It's ice but formed in to very fine strands, its linked to a fungus in the rotting wood, very strange, it disintegrates with the slightest touch. I've never seen this until this year, the conditions must have been just right.

Using my trusty K-50 with the excellent 35mm Macro HD Ltd lens, well cropped and lightly processed using DxO.
