Infrastructural Decay
by GlynM
Cowshot Bridge sits at the eastern end of lock 17 on the Basingstoke Canal near Pirbright in Surrey.
This part of the canal was, and is still, drained for some well overdue, but seriously under funded, maintenance.
Draining the canal revealed the elliptical exit port of the by-pass channel and and I was inspired to capture an image that included this with the arch of the bridge and the entrance to the tunnel under the competing London to Southampton railway.
I also liked the way the different structures, texture and colourings came together to make a complex image.
Shot early one Sunday morning, last June, using a Pentax K-7 with Sigma DC 17-70 HSM @ 17mm.
1/13 sec, F6.3, ISO200 & -0.7ev
Resized in PSE10.
