Renaissance Evolution

by nathanever82

This is a lateral interpretation to this interesting theme. The photograph represents three different styles of Renaissance Architecture, in one single square in Florence; Piazza Santa Maria Novella

The oldest component is the tower at the centre of the photograph, built under the supervision of Friar Iacopo Talenti in 1360.

The Facade of the Church was built by Leon Battista Alberti in 1470.

And to the left, the obelisks was built in 1608 by the sculptor Giambologna.

You can clearly see the impact that this cultural movement had on architercture, going from a rough gothic bell-tower, to a refined and geometrically perfect facade. And later on, a white marble obelisks with the simbol of Florence, once the greatness of the city was already achieved.
