Jumièges Abbey

History has destroyed this abbey almost completely.
Founded in 654, it was pillaged and burnt by the Vikings, then after its reconstruction, it was devastated during the Wars of Religion.
The French Revolution ended its existence as a monastery, leaving only ruins and then a merchant from Rouen used it as a stone quarry!
Now, thank god, the ruins (which are said to be “the most beautiful ruins in France”) are preserved … For our greatest pleasure.
It is situated in the Seine valley in Normandy and is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Seine Maritime Département.
