+ The PENTAX K10D firmware must be updated to take advantage of this automatic switching function.

More goodies as well maybe then??

And a 77mm filter on the 16-50

But why, oh why, would you want to wipe off "cosmetics" from the front element??

I dropped in at SRS at the weekend and asked Chris if he'd got any news. A very cryptic 'no' was the answer - I think he knows but just can't tell us...

One thing he did mention was that Pentax had asked him what he thought users might pay for either of these lenses - both mine and Chris' guess at the prices were only £50 apart. I just hope that we're pretty close to our guesstimate...

Hi everyone,

The price has yet to be finalised - as soon as I know anything I will let everyone know - I am doing the deposit thing again, if anyone is interested!

As ever, feel free to mail or phone.

A comparison on price and image quality vs the 16-45 will be desirable...

I will see what is announced at the PMA, who knows, one or two glass cases might contain something rather special....like a K1D prototype

the Pentax link further up says $899 and $999 so not cheap by any means but certainly not totally out of reach.

Also interesting to note that the DA* 200 and 300 primes also have SDM (See the pics on the Pentax forum, they have AF/MF switches implying SDM)

edit: oh and it's tagged on the end of their names as well, detective work not needed if you read the post properly! lol

If the suggested selling price in the USA is $899 for the DA* 16-50 and the exchange rate is close to 2 dollars to the pound, then the suggested selling price in the UK should be somewhere between £450 and £500 or is this just wishful thinking :

Yippeeeee!

All that gold trim, they'll match my Sigma

Alas, they're going to be way out of my budget for some considerable time

It's just wishful thinking.

Expect to pay around 50% more, if you're lucky.

I noted in another thread that Adorama are selling the DA* 16-50mm F2.8 for US$750, and the DA* 50-135mm F2.8 for US$830.

I hope the price keeps getting lower the harder I look.

Cameraworld at Focus were telling me that it would be 350-400 pounds, apparently availability of the 16-45 for them was a problem.....
