I have many Pentax prime lenses dating back to the 1980's but I am now keen to acquire my first high quality digital zoom lens.

I thought that the debate about prime v. zoom lenses had largely died a death some years ago.

".......I thought that the debate about prime v. zoom lenses had largely died a death....."

It has,...for people using zoom lenses.....

Then again quite a lot of those people think that a 5"x7" print is quite a large size. And, many of them don't really know what a really 'sharp' large print looks like because they have never actually SEEN one.

Quite a number of these people are the same ones who can't understand why one would cart a heavy tripod about......

If you want to see a really sharp orint have a look at some of the 20" x 16" monochrome prints from the 1930s and 1940s that we have in our ADAPS archive. They are stunning.

In the context of digital, sharpness is not the problem, it's more to do with tonal quality and gradation. A3 prints can be so sharp they could be dangerous to hold without gloves...

Chris,

Unfortunately Watford is not nearby.

Please obtain whatever information you can from the Pentax rep. with precise delivery dates being the No. 1 issue.

Some photographs of the two lenses on a K10D would be useful !

Hi all,

Had the meeting as scheduled - I tried to post on Saturday but this site was down?

The lenses look great - extremely quick and quiet on a K10D, and also reasonably so on the K100D....

The latest I have on a delivery time is that they are due to hit Europe late May (probably the last week) and they then would take 2 to 3 days to arrive in from the Europe warehouse.

I totally forgot to measure them - I have spoken to him this morning and he will measure them for me and get back to me! He did leave a copy of the new catalogue which is due out soon and looks pretty impressive. This states the weight as 600g for the 16-50 and 765g for the 50-135.

I have also taken some pictures which I will be happy to post if someone can explain how!

As usual - please contact me if you need any further info!

Chris,

Thanks for the latest information.

In order to post photographs, they first have to be hosted on another website, but as I have not tried this myself, I will leave it to other experienced members to explain how

Hi Chris,

as mentioned, you need to host them online somewhere.. either your own site, or with a dedicated photo hosting site, such as Flikr, pbase or photobucket.

Next post the URL of the photo inside Comment Image
tags like so..

http://www.photosite.com/chris'spictures/mypicture.jpg

I've put a couple of spaces in the above tags, so they don't post, and the URL is fake, but that's it basically.

Cheers

Liam

You know, this always happens...

You find a great place to buy goods, they latch on, and VOILA you're paying top dollar.

16-50mm DA* C$930
50-135mm DA* C$1220

From The Camera Store (www.thecamerastore.com).

Dammit to hell I was hoping they'd be the cheapest of the lot!!!

And my friggin' cricket team loses AGAIN (to New Zealand)...

Saw this and got excited, but when I called them, they told me they're accepting pre-orders, but don't expect to see actual product until September...

The salesman told me (and I quote) "...the K10D body is taking off so successfully, it's getting hard, almost impossible, to find new fast glass for it..."

This on top of being outbid at the last second twice this morning on eeekBay - I just may tell the boss I'n not well, and go back to bed....
