Hi all,

The UK retail prices for these lenses have been set at:

16-50 - £549

50-135 - £629

I can offer a discount to you all on here - £520 for the 16-50 and £599 for the 50-135.... I have quite a number on order of each and we are looking Mid to late March (well, that's the latest, anyway!!)

As usual - feel free to call/mail for info...

You know I was expecting these lenses later in the year somehow. From what I've read a firmware update will be required for SDM, is there any information on this?

In a link, posted by Ammonyte, to an interview recorded at PMA and subsequently translated into English, Mr. Tatamika Koshi mentions that the two new DA* lenses (16 - 50 and 50 - 135) will be on the market in a few days.

Does anyone know if this just applies to Japan, or is it worldwide ?

There was a vid that I watched on the PentaxLife site from the Pentax PMA stand and that clearly stated June for the availability of these 2 new lenses and projected dates of Sept and Dec for the other new lenses to be rolled out.

Chris,

Thanks for the information.

Presumably the dimensions stated in the Pentax announcements for the first two lenses refer to the lens off the camera with both the lens and K-mount caps in place ?

So as usual we are going to have to pay over a hundred quid over the odds for the privelege of buying this lens here in the UK......

Do aany of the independant makers do a 2.8 zoom at a sensible price?

Whats so great about this staggeringly expensive Pentax glass anyway?....when all is said and done, it's a ZOOM LENS!!!!....it's not like it was a high quality prime....nobody will be getting any really big prints using it, it's only a convenience and 'walkaround' lens.

Nobody seems to be taking this one up, but I will say that there was a time when I used prime lenses exclusively. Now zooms are the norm. The requirements for the print size have remained the same, in fact my digital prints are slightly larger than my darkroom ones.

How things have changed in such a short time.
Best regards, John
