Winter Western

Ex GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 no 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe' makes a spirited departure from Langley Mill (near the Derby/Nottinghamshire border).
It was shot on 12th December 2009 en-route from Birmingham to York for the Christmas market.
Shot as a PEF then shadows/highlights tweaked.

Very good viewpoint that enabled the inclusion of the whole train and the rails. Lovely composition!

Have you tried making this one sepia? I bet it would look superb.

Nice one Peter, the detail in the steam is particularly good. I see the signal is green for a train going the opposite way. I bet you were anxious in case it came at the wrong time and blocked your view.

Thank you gentlemen for your kind comments.
A crisp cold day helped with the steam, Gabor and David, not forgetting a good blast from the locomotive.
You were spot on about the signal, David. The last carriage of the steamer crossed with a diesel unit no more than a couple of carriage lengths behind my viewpoint.
Larry, I did think of sepia for this one as the colours were quite flat. A bit of work in PS was needed to darken the highlights to keep detail in the steam, to lighten the shadows and to increase the saturation to bring up the colours a little. I am getting better with PS as time goes on.
