Hi as a bit of a novice I just have a quick question.

I currently have an old Yashica FX-D which has a 35 - 70mm lens.
I am looking at buying a pentax me or mx.
Am not really interested in Digital because for what I do it's not worth that kind of investment.

I have always wanted a Pentax but will I really be better off with a pentax?

Would be really interested in your opnions before buying.

Welcome to the best camera forum. Ever!

Yes, I, as the owner of 6 Pentax film cameras, believe that Pentax is your very best bet.

Right now there are several good bodies available on eBay.

I would try for an MX for sure.

I also owned Yashica and Minolta 35mms. After a while, they just didn't do it for me any more and I gave them away.

Besides, how can you enjoy our company in good faith without owning a Pentax?

Cheers
Mac from Montreal

Hi Mac

thanks for your opinion. The MX seems to be the one which is most reccomended although they are a little harder to find

Also the MZ-5 also looks interesting, again woul be interested in peoples opinions as a comparison

The MZ5 is a modern electronic camera with many more features than the MX. Because it has a conventional shutter speed dial though it can, if you wish, be used in exactly the same way as the MX.

The MX is a very fine traditional styled manual SLR.

If you can find a superb MX fair enough, but they are getting older now and the seals and shutter may well need attention.

If you can answer whether you want traditional metal-feel ehgineering (MX) or modern plastics and electronics (MZ5) then you may have your answer.

Or have both!

thanks for that John,

i was beginning to think the same way myself and I do fancy the traditional classic asahi

but the MZ5 does have such a good reputation as well

oh sugar!!!

I can see it may have to be both.

In your opinion do you think they will be better than the Yashica as per my original post?

MXV ( www.mxv.co.uk ) have two MX's (£99 and £69 with a ding), and an MZ-5 (£79) for sale.
Might be worth telephoning them

Thanks MX veteran, I have found an MZ5 on ebay for a very good price.

I will see how I go on and if I don't like it perhaps I can come back to you.

Anyone want to buy a Yashica FD-X?

I've used Pentax SLRs since 1970, and never regretted it. In fact, I'm just a wee bit smug when I fit a 1960's lens onto my Pentax K10D DSLR.
