pentax z1 film won't read

my camera does not seem to read film when i insert it. Does not diplay E or anything, just fails to acknowledge i have inserted film. is there a fix?

Maybe clean the contacts inside? Or perhaps you've loaded non-DX-coded film? Film cameras which use a DX code can usually use non-coded film but revert to a default ISO of 100, not sure if the Z1 works like that. If it does, perhaps you can use exposure compensation (if it doesn't have over-ride) to get correct exposure.

it was a DX Coded film, i think i will try to clean the contacts and change the battery as the lcd keeps fading too

I don't think DX coding (or dirty contacts) makes a difference - putting the film in, pulling the leader across and closing the back triggers the film loading sequence. Non-DX coding film is no different, it just defaults to ISO 100 - although it may flash the ISO icon on the LCD.

If the camera is not reading the coding you can set the ISO manually.
