K5 SDHC Slot...

Having moved to the K5 a couple months back from the K-x I now feel I've pretty much got to grips with it...

But the one thing that really bugs me is the SDHC card slot... It there an easy way to remove the card that I'm missing?!

The door just seems ludicrously close to the actual slot meaning I have to pinch the edges of the card... It's really fiddly!!

Hoping this is something they consider in their next body!!

(Does the K30 have this fiddly design?)

I don't have any problems with mine Dave, but I have pretty small fingers. Some people say that you can quickly 'flick' it and it pops out.

I think it's fiddly as well, and it has been addressed in the Q so it's not lack of space that's the problem!

It needs a firm push on the card, immediately moving the finger out of the way, and then a bit of dexterity to grip and remove the card.

It does get better with practice, but it's not great.

I sorta try and pop it out, press it down then let it spring up if that makes sense Mate.
One day you'll find, 10yrs have got behind you.

Glad to know it's not just me that has an issue with an otherwise cracking camera...

Yeah, the 'pop' and 'flick' technique is in play but it does annoy me frequently!!

This is the only thing that I don't like on the K5. Others have suggested that a piece of tape is stuck over the top of the card to act as a flexible extension. This does in fact work. I have also now settled on the fast flick.

I had problems early doors, but have learnt to fire it out and catch in the same hand now!

Since using Samsung Extreme cards I don't seem to have many problems at all - the cards pop out very easily

(I know that thickness of cards does vary, and it can be a real pain removing them even with the 'flick' approach that's required on the K5)

It's a fairly standard fitting also found without a door
on some radios such as the Pure Evoke 3.

Maybe I am the odd one out but it is extremely rare for me to remove a card. I just leave the 16gb class 10 in and down load images using the lead at the end of the day. then wipe the card. The only time I ever remove it is on the very very rare occasion that I shoot more than 16gig

It depends upon the individual and their workflow Carl.

For example, on holiday Sue and I use a card per day each, making it easier to keep track of what was shot, where and when. Each card's images are a separate folder on the computer later on, all dated and all in order.

I am sure you are right John and it is just personal preference. For me - less chance of losing a card if I leave it in, less chance of discovering I forgot to put one in, less chance of damaging a card as I rarely touch it and as I download daily - even on holiday, I don't lose track. Some may argue that I run a bigger risk of a corrupted card but that really isn't true - as I download daily my risk is the same as anybody who changes cards daily.

Only really mentioned it as there have been so many threads about fiddly K5 card releases

I remove cards from k-5 all the time and never had an issue, I'm a nail biter too....

I prefer to upload using a high speed USB 3.0 card reader, far quicker than using a cable to body method...

As David said (in quote) above, then card flips almost half way out, you can then grip it without a problem and I don’t have small fingers.

Take care.
