When I saw this spiders web glistening in the morning sun I thought it looked like an LP hanging there !

They are quite hard to photograph too -- I've tried

You are right, David, these are difficult to capture as the lens often 'sees' the image differently to the eye.
I found the most difficult thing with this shot was getting a PoV which gave sufficient contrast to the web. It needed the sun at the right angle to the web or it got lost. As it was about 6ft off the ground (and I'm not that tall !) I stood inside the house on the doorstep hence the need for the 250mm zoom !
