Thanks for your comment Paul. I do have another shot of a similar aircraft (complete with wingtip!) taken within minutes of this one. I think it was the asymmetry that appealed to me with this one. I'm actually using a selective enlargement of this photo as my current 'desktop' background for the next few weeks, although it only captures about half of the aircraft.

I have a USFS US2B as my desktop, at the moment.
Clearly, like myself, you are an enthusiast. If you take a look at airliners.net you'll see what sort of standard is required and a missing wingtip just would not be accepted. Waiting a few seconds more would have made a far more acceptable photo, from an enthusiast's point of view more than here on PU. It would then have shown the registration and the livery.
