Light Bulb

by GlynM

This photo was my submission for the recent "Design Icon" fortnightly competition.

As far as I've managed to find out Tungsten Light Bulbs were first produced in around 1908 and mass production started around 1912. So its been around for about 100 years. It is however coming to end of its reign being replaced by modern, efficient, low energy, bulbs.

This, 100W example, dates from around 2002 and the markings indicate it came from Sainsbury's

I learnt the hard way about the difficulties of photographing such a reflective, curved, surface and in the end built a tent around it with a couple sheets. I also found out that the glass showed up any marks, particularly finger prints, and therefore had to be kept very clean

The wires, directly soldered to the to the bulb, are hidden under the cardboard background passing through holes masked by the bulb.

Fabulous shot of a difficult subject and refreshingly generous sharing of method, thank you
Best Regards, Larry.
