Sigma 10-20mm Lens for Pentax K20D

I'm confused by all the comments indicating that PUFers' 10-20's have replaced their 10-17's. Never mind the distortions (which can be nice), surely the fisheye offers a dramatically different perspective by including SO much more (which seems to be borne out by Smeggypants' stats above)? Certainly I notice a big difference between the 10-17 and 12mm on my 12-24. I don't think the extra 2mm on the Sigma includes that much more does it?

Well personally I'd like both. A Sigma 10-20 isn't next on my list, I need something to fill the 70 to 135 gap first and for that I have nmy eye on a DA* 5-135

My shooting buddy has a 10-20 on his Canon and from what I've seen it's a damn fine lens. He uses it FF too.

English is a rich and complex language, and slight alterations in a word change the subtelty of the meaning.

Hope that helps!

As people may have noticed I have some reservations about Stefan but one area where I will give him 14/10 is his efforts to use the English language.

I bet there are a large number of people who would claim English as their first language who would have got that wrong.

Thank you Oggy, I really appreciate it.
Don't forgot though that this a typical dyslectic mistake so for some (like me) it's quite hard to keep them apart when you aren't careful.

About lenses, what about the Sigma 8-16 or is that to wide?

I am currently using a 16-45mm for most of my landscape shots,I was thinking of buying a 10-20mm lens but when I looked at my portfolio saw that hardly any of my shots were at 16mm most were taken between 20-28mm.
I've decided to go for the 21mm prime but will have to save a few more pennies.

I think the 16-45mm is a great lens for landscape shots. I had similar considerations regarding the 10-20mm..in the end I have to say, as nice as this lens might be from time to time, I think I wouldn't use it often enough to justify the price. I like the idea of an 21mm prime...I never thought about that before..but I guess that would be a great alternative.

I've got 12-24 & 10-20 Sigmas. My reservation about the 12-24 is it's bulbous front element (flare problems & you can't put a screw on UV filter on it) but it doesn't have the distortion of the 10-20. That said I love the 10-20 which is always part of my travel kit.

No one (I think) has mentioned the Sig 15mm 1:28 Prime. Rated as fisheye but actually rectangle. Now that is a great lense

As far as I know it's a Fish-eye but made for 135 format so on APS-C the effect is less but still there.

Sigma and Pentax also make the 14 f/2.8 without the fish eye distortion and there is a DA 15mm f/4 limited Review

There's also the Samyang 14mm, manual focus, but very well regarded apparently for about half the price of the Pentax or Sigma

The Pentax 14mm F2.8 is a lens I'm considering myself...minimal distortion and nice sharpness, I know a couple of photographers who are very impressed by it.
The problem is deciding whether 14mm is that much more useful than the 17mm of the DA17-70. Personally I'd much rather have the Pentax DA 12-24 over them all but current prices are just too much for me as I can't see myself using it all that often...SRS currently have a few for sale but £599 seems a bit steep for a 2nd hand one.
