Glen Etive and Glencoe

We went to go skiing at Glencoe yesterday but the conditions were absolutely terrible (lashing rain, melting snow) so we detoured and went photographing instead.... not a wasted day.

Right Angle Falls on the River Etive.

I've kayaked this fall a lot of times, but yesterday with all the snow melt, I had never seen the river this high before. Stunning location. Hope I've done it justice.

First one is a stitch of 4 shots at the wide end of my kit lens.

This one is from half way down the slippery cliffside climb down to the base of the fall. Precarious!

And, of course, a visit to the area wouldn't be complete without a pic of the infamous Buachaille Etive Mor, especially with her winter coat on. This is the most we saw of her in almost 2 hours!

Anyway, hope you like. All comment and constructive crit very welcome.

I'm not a fan of long shutter speeds/ water but I like these

Peter - as a fellow Scotsman myself, I know it's not easy getting great shots of the Highlands, mainly because the weather can change dramatically in such a short space of time, but there's a lot to be said for your shots here. Unfortunately, the 4-pic stitch isn't working for me (perhaps a 6-8 pic stitch would have been better, as it would look less "forced"), but Glen Coe (pic 1), and Etive Mor are pretty good photos... Naw - strike that!! They're better than pretty good - they're NO' BAD, as Rab C Nesbitt would say!!

Thanks steven... know what you mean. We had to trudge through some god-dam awful underground conditions. I gained a new found respect for the hiking ability of the local deer herd who were gracefully plodding and galloping around the moor and up the side of some really steep hills!

Would have been good to get a bit further away from the fall for the stitch to enable a couple of more shots but just one step back was enough to lose sight of the bottom of the fall. It was a trade off and I agree with you. I have another few shots from further back that I'll post up to let you see. The one thing that's bothering me about the pic is that I had to crop into the water at the bottom.

Aah!!.. Now I understand why pic #1 wasn't working. I hate when a trade-off like that potentially ruins a great shot! I've tried quite a few stitches that haven't quite worked, but I've posted one in my gallery here which I'm pleased with - the one of the Chao Phraya River in sunny weather.

I'm toying with the idea of taking several shots of the shopping centre around where I live, and doing a super-stitch of it. The possibility is that I will use Microsoft's PHOTOSYNTH program to do it, so as to get a "3-dimensional" view, akin to taking a walk around the block. I'd imagine that it would be of some use to a website featuring our area.

That sounds cool.

Here's another shot i've just processed from our walk.

I think you have almost saved the best until last, but the others are really good as well. I am not a fan of the long shutter effect as a rule, but you have handled these really well.

Great set of a fantastic location - and looks like difficult light to deal with.

The 'extra' shot is the pick of the bunch IMHO
