I think as manual focus only. If you let me have the exact model of your Sigma I'll try and find out (e.g. sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 ex dg apo os hsm)

Yes please W its the Sigma 70-200 ( latest model) F2.8 EX DG OS HSM about to buy via SRS . I guess the MF is a workable outcome for the x2 reach but IQ is going to be better than cropping from what I read before. Still, never used then but assume there is no risk of screwing up the camera/lens is there ? I do have a Pentax 50 mm at 1.8 guess that might be the same too ? Cheers P

Ok, the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 EX DG OS HSM has a in-lens motor (Hyper Sonic Motor, in Sigma speak), rather than relying on the camera body screw drive.

All the teleconverters I have will be manual focus only with this lens (Pentax 2x and Jessops 2x certainly, Tamron most probably). Image quality I'm not sure as I've never owned the 70-200.

With a nice new lens like that it might be worth looking at more modern teleconveters (e.g. Pentax HD 1.4x or Sigma's offerings), but do check compatibility first - it can be a bit of a mine field.

Hi W, the new Pentax is x 1.4 with AF probably but rather it was a 1.7x or 2x to make investing in that worthwhile at near of £ 400. Sigma new TC seem to exclude working on Pentax K mount why that is no sense to me ?

Hence was looking whether to use some of the older models even if MF is a limit but the trade off is value as not sure how often I will shoot longer than 300/400mm.

Do not know what of your might be best match ?

Ha Ha can I return those that dont work for a refund beginning to think the various makers only want their TC on its lens & bodies? Got to say the Tamron seemed the one to try more, did you buy new & how old is that ?

I'm sure we can work something out. You have PM. The Tamron 2x is second hand, not sure of it's exact age but's from the power zoom era mid 90s onwards?.

An update and clarification on the remaining teleconverters, in response to various queries:

6. Tamron PZ-AF 2x Teleconverter £40.
This teleconverter has screw drive pass through, along with the power zoom contacts. Autofocus should work with screw drive lenses. SDM lenses don't work (they indicate MF), but curiously I tried my trusty Sigma 50-500 HSM and it does attempt to focus. It didn't seem to lock very easily though, so I'm not guaranteeing any sort of compatibility with HSM.

7. Jessops Auto 2x Teleconverter £15
This just has the "A" contacts. No screw drive, so just good old manual focus.
