Hi, Pleased to report this is now resolved for new uploads (exif is read at the point of upload). Rick |
No camera data in Gallery? Posted in General Photographic Discussion |
Hi Antony We're looking to getting it fixed asap, the site has recently been migrated to a new server, looks like there's an issue with the EXIF reader. I'll keep you updated to when it's fixed. Rick |

Slow Failed Photo Upload Posted in Troubleshooter |
Hi David, Yeah the results of the speed test rule that train of thought out, but sounds like something is still throttling the uploads, with the speeds you have and as you've suggested most files should be uploaded under 10 seconds. I'm clutching as straws really without seeing it first hand, the certificate bit is strange, if you view the certificate by clicking the padlock in the address bar, is there any error messages on there? You can also clear any cookies specific to Pentax User while there too (know you've said you've tried this), just to rule out if one has become corrupt. Other things to try would be to disable any antivirus software you have running for a few minutes to see if that's the cause, same if you have any Adblocking systems in place, since they can interfere with the uploading scripts. Cheers, Rick |
Slow Failed Photo Upload Posted in Troubleshooter |
Hi David, I've just checked the max execution time of the scripts/uploads on site and it was set at 2 mins, do you think you're uploads were breaching that time? I've now extended it to 5 mins. I've just tested uploading again using a 7MB file which took 10 seconds, however I do have an broadband upload rating of 26MBPS. The first step I'd take is to test your upload speed using this site: https://www.speedtest.net Not sure whether you're in a rural location, but I'd expect uploads speeds of modern broadband to be above 2MBPS, the slower the speed, the longer it takes to upload. Once you've got a rating of your upload speed, if it seems low, sometimes a simple reboot of your router can sort things out, but other things I'd consider too, is if you're using WiFi, retest with your device closer to the router's signal. Another thing to check is if anything else in you home is using up all your bandwidth, for example Smart TV or cameras. If you can let me know your upload rating, that might help with resolving this. Cheers, Rick |
Slow Failed Photo Upload Posted in Troubleshooter |
Hi, It's a difficult one for us to debug unless it's continuous, is it still happening for you, even intermittently? It could have been a blip at that moment in time, may be the site certificate playing up, or lost internet connection, something like that. If it's still happening (I've tested an upload) can you put a in and I'll get hold of you via email to try and help debug the issue. Cheers, Rick |

A great example of pure dedication to the cause and stunning end result! Thanks for sharing your video of how it was all planned and panned out, a very interesting watch. Good luck in the competition! |
Payment Posted in Just Joined |
Hi, Apologies for the frustration of PayPal being the preferred payment option, however it's the most cost effective option for us to receive payments, since fees involved using other methods are very expensive. Although the gateway is provided by PayPal, there is also the option to check out as a guest using any card, without the need for a PayPal account. The option is underneath the 'Pay with PayPal' button. Hope this helps, Rick |
A Big Thank You Posted in General Photographic Discussion |
Thanks Steve, although we're aware that Pentax User plays second fiddle to ePHOTOzine, we do ensure that the site is up and usable for the Pentax community to use and enjoy. A quick shout out to John (Riley) for moderating the site and raising any issues with myself if anything needs fixing. And of course, thanks to everyone who contribute to the forum, be it uploading photos, starting topics and not forgetting supporting the site with Plus Membership. |

camera for left (single) handed Posted in General Photographic Discussion |
Although it would take a little bit of getting used to, it's feasible with the GR, using your thumb for the shutter. You'd just have to use it in auto, or set your aperture and other settings before shooting. Guess you could apply this technique to any compact really, rotating the images in post. |

posting Embedded Video Posted in General Photographic Discussion |
Hi Spad, Currently it's not a feature of the BB comment editor, however I'll add it to the upgrades list and get is sorted in the New Year. In the meantime as John suggests, just providing the link to YouTube will guide members to your time lapse projects, something I'm interested in seeing myself too. Cheers, Rick |
Lens not functioning in manual mode Posted in Troubleshooter |
The sixth picture on that link above, shows you the inside of the metal mount and how the plastic cover is fixed, looks like 3 screws. |

Yep, those ones, the back plastic cover will then lift out, it's got like a inner collar on it. It can only go back on one way because of the window for the aperture lever. |

I've done a few of them, complete disassembly to get to elements that had residue on them from fogging up, this is the guide I've followed. https://www.flickr.com/photos/fluffyrazor/albums/72157630944498102/ I think in your case, you'll not even have to take the metal mount off (avoid this since the contacts are spring loaded and a devil to put back), just the inner plastic cover which is held in place with one or two screws from the side. With that cover removed, you should be able to see if the spring has simply come unhooked (see the third image on that link). Hope that helps. |
