Winter Solstice

Thought we'd skip the crowds and go a day early since the weather was so lovely. We have never been to Stonehenge before and did not expect the immense visual impact the sun shining between the monoliths has on the site. It's breathtaking. It's not often that I'd rather admire than take shots. That said, it was safer to look at through the camera's Live View ! Prefer it full size but alas, the forum prefers it smaller

What is the f value? f22 and f8.9 are reported? Is f22 the max aperture of the lens?

This has the wow factor. The beautiful subdued green of the ground has been kept to a minimum to maximise the effect of that wonderful sky. Love the starburst through the stones.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I didn't even plan using the ultrawide on this but got frustrated trying to get anything usable (not a shapeless blob pretending to be a star) from the sun with the kit lens 
The aperture was at f22; never quite figure out what the other value listed in the exif ever means to be; and I believe that is the max aperture of the Irix 15mm 2.4 which was used. It flares horribly if the sun is in the center of the frame, so the photo was composed with that and the awesome sky in mind.

Thank you, Donna. I'm at a very comfortable time in life - enough money to support a hobby, enough time to devote to it and a very accommodating other half. Anyone in my place would make their best out of it. Life is a bumpy ride; after a few you learn to appreciate everything good that comes your way, and every opportunity becomes worthwhile exploring.
